Sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and a mountain backdrop, Port Louis blends Mauritius modernity and tradition. The Caudan Waterfront entices shoppers with fashion, local crafts and live entertainment. Domaine les Pailles, with its 18th-century ox-driven sugar mill and colonial architecture, houses a new casino. Seek out the capital city's vast Bazaar, built in 1828, for spices, souvenirs and a lunch of fried noodles. For great views, hike the pedestrians-only road up Signal Mountain.

A playful approach, but very respectful of Indian spirituality in Mauritius through 3 emblematic temples, its main deities, anecdotes and Mauritian history. Why does Shiva have a blue neck? Why does lingam need to be constantly watered? Why is Ganesh's right defense broken? … Maha Shivaratree, Cavadee, Ganesh Chaturti, Ganga Snan, Govinden? … What do we celebrate on the occasion of these festivals? Hindu religion, Tamil religion? We also offer on specific festival dates to participate and follow the processions or prayers.

Eric took us to meet Anjoo in her lovely welcoming house where we participated in cooking a wonderful array of dishes using local produce - a lot of it from her garden. We got really hands on, using the traditional roche karai to grind spices & make pastes, we made traditional bread. It was THE most fantastic experience & it culminated in a most delicious lunch that we shared together. We would thoroughly recommend Eric’s company. If we come back we will definitely do more tours with him. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history & customs of the Island. Julie & Amir

This food tour is the perfect option for those who want to experience the local Port Louis life as well as go deeper into China Town, discovering its rich culture, its vivid street art, and fusional flavours. We will first visit Port Louis, taste its delicious street food, meet those that prepare it, and learn the history of the capital city of Mauritius. We will then enter the gates of China Town and feel like we're somewhere else. We will enjoy all the Mauritian street food classics like dholl puris or "boulettes", then we will also relish on some Chinese specialties with a Mauritian twist. We will also learn of the struggles of this neighbourhood and how it has managed to transform itself to become a hotspot of Chinese heritage, street art and delicious food. Pick up upon our arrival went smoothly. The driver was on time and safe. The return, however, was a different story and not a way we wanted our lovely holiday to end. We requested a pick up that would have us at the airport two hours before our scheduled departure. We received word, after the driver was already 20 minutes late picking us up, that our driver would arrive momentarily, so we waited. And we waited, and we waited some more. Our hotel called the driver and was told he was in an accident and that a new driver would be arriving soon. This wasn't true as the original driver FINALLY showed up one hour and ten minutes late to take us to the airport. Again, our amazing hotel called the airlines and told them we were on our way. The airlines said they'd keep the desk open 15 minutes late for us (and they did). We literally JUST made our flight. It was an anxiety-filled, nerve-wracking and very upsetting one hour ride to the airport. The worst part is that there was no explanation from the driver or from John at Mauritius Booking as to why he was late and why they didn't inform us earlier, so that we could have used the hotel airport service or called a taxi. We paid in advance, but I would have paid another service for peace of mind. I don't like giving such a low rating, but the communication after this debacle was non-existent and frankly very, very disappointing.
