Old Town in Poznan is an area of the location city with a medieval layout with a centrally located Old Market Square. The area of the Old Town was marked by a line of city walls. This area covers an area of 21 ha . The borders of the former Poznan and the current Old Town ran from the Royal Castle along Ludgardy Street, crossing the later Bazar, through the area of the past Strusia Hospital, via Jaskółcza Street to Wrocławska, covering the area of the Jesuit College, further along the southern frontage of Kolegiacki Square and crossing the current buildings between Ślusarska and Garbary streets to the church and the Dominican monastery, then along Stawna and Masztalarska streets to the Royal Castle. The city was founded in 1253. During World War II, in February 1945, the Old Town was destroyed in about 60%. The reconstruction was completed by the beginning of the 1960s.
