Today the walls of the Ming dynasty and the Tang palace walls hint at the Xi’an’s glorious past. Stare in awe at the Terracotta Army, 7,000 terracotta statues of Qin Bingmayong Bowuguan warriors and soldiers. Dating from 210 BCE, they were discovered in 1974 and are still being excavated. Don't miss the Shaanxi History Museum or a chance to heat up at former imperial bathing spot, Huaqing Hot Springs.

The joint mausoleum of Emperor Jingdi and Empress Wang, his consort.
After seeing the terra cotta warriors the army that accompanied this Emperor to the after life is not that impressive. Our guide told us the figures originally had wooden heads and arms and wore clothing, none of which has survived the centuries. The figures are not life sized and today lack arms and heads and clothing. Thus, the name our guide told us- headless naked barbies. However, the museum, which is underground is a masterpiece of architecture to enable large numbers of people to view this underground tomb, in some places through glass floors over the chambers. This Emperor also needed a lot of food to accompany him and the herds of terra cotta sheep, pigs and cows are remarkable.

As part of our tour through china we had the opportunity to visit this place and we are glad we did. After seeing so many streets in china where is felt like a tourist trap I felt like I was part of the Chinese culture. The street is extremely busy but not with tourists, but locals. All age groups were there. We arrived just before dark and the lights were just being turned on. The vendors were out in force with food, souvenirs, entertainers. For as busy as this place was it was relatively clean compared to other places we visited in china. We spent over an hour walking this street, but we ran out of time. We could not find any western toilets so if that is an issue find one before you visit here. We did try a couple of sticks of local food, some very tasty, some not but was worth trying. There were a few restaurants along the way but we did not try them. I felt very safe here but would still say to keep your guard up with your valuables.

Huaqing Palace, also known as the Huaqing Hot spring or Huaqing Pool, is located in Lintong District, Xi'an city. It takes only 10 minutes from terra cotta warriors to Huaqing Palace by tourist bus 306. The mystery and scarce hot spring, which can cure diseases, attracted many emperors to build palaces here, Huaqing Palace is one the greatest among them. The design of kinds of hot spring pools represented the simple and original world view of ancient people. Now travelers can not only visit the museum of imperial hot spring pool, the historical site of Xi'an Incident but also can climb Moutain Li and furthermore explore the Chinese earliest military observation tower. Suggestion: Before visiting Huaqing Palace, please email to [email protected], we will send the tour package, which includes: the map, recommended routes and the book about the social organism. Access our official website and homepage on Facebook, you can find more information.

Located on the grounds of the Jianfu Temple, this pagoda (circa 652 A.D.) is considered on of the most famous in China due to its antiquity and historical relevance in connection with Buddha.
Know that there is an entrance fee for the complex of buildings and then another entrance fee for the actual pagoda. You are allowed to walk up all seven stories in the pagota and there are amazing views on each floor where you can take pictures. This is an old historic building so you might have to wait if there is a crowd. The grounds have Buddhist temple and gardens. The surrounding area has lots of shops decorations a light show at night.

Built in 1384, this imposing tower was rebuilt after the 1949 Communist revolution.
The Drum Tower is located in downtown Xi’an. The place is well maintained so it is quite hard to believe that the place dates back to more than 600 years ago. Entry for adults is at 30 RMB. Featured are 4 larger drums and 24 red drums each engraved with one of the 24 solar terms. You will get a good view of downtown Xi’an from the tower, including the Bell Tower as well as Muslim Quarter.

For the fans of the Miyazaki Hayao's Spirited Away, the Ziyun Building definitely reminded me of the Yubaba's Palace. The pond, the buildings around it - all makes you feel like being in the movie. The distant lights of the Tang Pedestrian Mall are like the market where Chihiro's parents got turned into pigs. Entrance was from the West Gate. For foreigners without Chinese IDs had to show passports at the visitor's centre and the enter through a passage for disabled - kudos to the place for having such. At 17:30 there was a fountain and light show in front of the Ziyun building in the pond. Without stopping for landmarks, the park can be walked around in under two hours. On the east and north sides, each lantern along the walkway represents a sad love story from the Tang Dynasty period. There is a theater on site for which shows there are separate tickets sold. The entrance to the park itself is free.
