This Cistercian abbey has simplicity that is powerful yet soothing. The cloisters are stunning. And in June it was relatively uncrowded on a week day.

The Fort Freinet, fortified village of the Middle Ages (12th- end of 16th Centuries), is situated on a steep hill dominating the present village of La Garde-Freinet. The fort is registered as a natural exceptional site. The panoramic view from this site is unique : from the Pre-Alps to the Mediterranean sea, crossing the wooded hills of the Maures Mountains.
wonderful. Definately worth a day out; so much history and a great walk, a bit scary bat times for small children but a great day out
