A hilltop site of a Jesuit mission.
These ruins are a reminder of the damage that is done by colonialism to another nation's culture, in this case by the C18th Spanish. Fortunately, the Paraguayans had the sense to expel the Jesuits before too much damage was done. The site is open, relaxed viewing, a nice museum and the remains of some lovely sandstone ruins with a nice touch of Moorish architecture in the arches. Interesting and enjoyable visit.

This is the site of the 1811 declaration of independence from Spain.
Nice little house displayed the declaration of independence of Paraguay, and history of it. You will learn a lot in this little casa. It's right in the heart of the old town near the tourist information center. Free admissions.
