It is the oldest Machiya building that exists in Kurayoshi City, built in 1760 (Horaku-Den 10). It is said that the Makita family with a shop name of "Kashiya" was a leading Kurayoshi merchant house and had a close relationship with the famous Osaka "Yodoya" trading store in Ashiyabashi.

It was built on the ruins of a building that was destroyed by fire in 2003. It has been restored with reference to Kurayoshi Machiya, and it currently functions as a regional disaster prevention center. You can go through the garden, and you can see sculptures in the courtyard and go out to the Tamagawa River through the garden.
