This UNESCO site is a must visit when in Transylvania. It is one of the few fortified churches of its kind; especially in the great condition it is in. The church was erected in the early 1200's and this type of architecture and design was typical of that era as the towns were centered around the local church. If invaders were coming, the inhabitants of the area, who normally lived outside the church fortifications, would take refuge inside the church behind its fortifications. The walls were about 5 meters thick with further towers and battle stations to fend off the enemy. In the interior, there were rooms built to accommodate the people, storage for food and other items. The church itself was built in the middle of the circular fortified wall with a little green space. A very unique build but the church was not captured very many times over the centuries due to its impressive build and fortifications. Another must see in Transylvania.

The Feldioara fortress can be spotted from the main road from/to Brasov. We were on our way to Viscri when we saw it and upon our return to Brasov decided to stop by. We didn't regret it. It was rebuilt recently, it opened its gates again in 2018. Personally, I was impressed to find out that we really invested time and money to restore a historic site. From the entrance the guide welcomed us warmly and presented the history of the fortress, what we were about to see and the why's and who's behind its story. She was a very nice person. Also she handed us some materials with further info about the fortress and a map with all key attractions around Tara Barsei. Good to have for a future trip. Inside the fortress you could hear medieval music, which created a nice atmosphere. I got goosebumps :). The view from the towers is impressive. There are pics from before during and after restoration and you could see the work involved. There are also exhibitions with objects from the community of Feldioara and stories about the role of the community throughout time. Also there is a room dedicated to the history of Teutons with a couple of representative objects exhibited. The entrance is 15 lei for adults and 5 for students, kids and seniors. I would recommend you stop by. It takes about 30 minutes to climb the stairs to the towers and walk around the inner yard.

This city gate is located some 500 metres west from the city centre and stands as the only one original city gate that has survived from that time. It dates back to 1559 and it was a replacement of an old city gate destroyed by the flood in 1528. It is named after St. Catherine's Monastery. Four small corner turrets around the main tower symbolize judicial autonomy of the city. Don't miss.

It is worth the climb to catch the views of the city. This is on the opposite side of old town with respect to the Brasov sign. You can look up into the valleys. I walked up via city streets and walk down via trails through the woods.

This is a lovely spot to come up to in the evening to get great pics of Brasov. I was just strolling around and kind of came across it. It really shows how huge the Black Church is. It is an easy 15 minute walk from town.

Its worth to take a walk along the old city walls, with its bastions, shows how the old Brasov looked like once in the middle ages. Takes you back in time and is a nice view of the city.
