Great walk along the boardwalk which follows the creek. Jump in the creek at one of six docks and float along. The water is chilly, but refreshing.

Aventura Circle

This is a 3 mile walking loop around the golf course. It can get a little busy but not so much that you can't keep going. Be careful of the time of day you go as there are some portions of the trail where there is very little or no shade so it can get a little too hot/sunny. Plenty of benches to take a rest if you need to,

Lake Apopka Wildlife Trail

Reviewed By DisneyDarwin - Spring, United States

The folks who imagined this place were true visionaries --- birds, birds and more birds. So many species and so many individual birds. The layout makes it easy, just drive and take your time and enjoy the wildlife. We saw mostly shore and water birds, but there were a couple of elevated spots that were fully of warblers, wrens, sparrows and such. This is a most worthy destination.

Anhinga Trail

A half-mile boardwalk along a man-made canal with striking views.

Reviewed By 646lorit - Dawsonville, United States

We visited in late January during the dry season, and were able to watch up-close the reptiles and birds that dominate the everglades. Because the Anhinga Trail wanders through an area that is filled with water year-round, it is actually an oasis with a high concentration of wildlife during the dry winter months. The trail starts at the Royal Palms visitor center and winds through the glades via well maintained boardwalks and paved walkways. We saw alligators sunning right beside the sidewalk. We saw a cormarant catch a fish, and then have it stolen by a great blue heron. We saw turtles, anhingas, and so much more. Helpful hint: take the free ranger-led walk to learn so much about the everglades ecosystem and see even more animals thanks to the many eyes of the group looking. The ranger pointed out a red shouldered hawk in a tree directly overhead that I would have missed because I was looking at the alligators. This trail is not to be missed!

Tamiami Trail

Also known as U.S. 41, this road crosses Everglades National Parks' northern border.

Reviewed By kidflemingo - Spartanburg, United States

My wife and I decided to take this route instead of the busy highway and I am so glad that we did. The wildlife and beauty of the swap was amazing. We saw all kinds of animals including alligators. I wish that we would have had time for an airboat tour. If you have the time do yourself a favor and take the road less traveled!!!!

Santos - Belleview Trail

Biking and hiking trails just outside Ocala.

My wife and I rode from Santos trailhead to the I 75 land bridge and back on the paved path. Very enjoyable ride for a couple of senior citizens. Route had varied scenery, was shady and lightly used during the week in January. Trailhead had parking spaces, picnic tables and flush toilets all in good condition. We have already made camping reservations this spring to return to ride the easiest of the single track paths.

We've visitied the Memorial a couple of times, walking the trails through the mangroves and watching the short movie about DeSoto's travails after landing here in the early 1500's. Good for families.
