It was created in 1992 through the fusion of three geographical regions which had previously been part of the Province of Novara. The area flanking the western shore of Verbano (or Lago Maggiore) forms the eastern part of the province; Cusio (or Lago d’Orta) and its environs form the southern part; while the north and west of the province consists of the Ossola, a region of Alpine mountains and valleys. Walking straight up takes 20 minutes but taking longer you can enjoy the artwork of the individual chapels - the painting, the frescoes, the the scenery of the surrounding mountains - magic.

This small lake is absolutely fantastic. The scenery is wonderful, the water is uncontaminated. The village that gives its name is a jewel of small streets and cobblestones and a nice ice cream and pastries are deliciously available with a loving lake view. Much nicer than the more famous Stresa. And less pretentious.
