Top 10 Hidden Gems Things to do in Cephalonia, Ionian Islands

May 28, 2021 Osvaldo Hartline

The sapphire waters of Cephalonia are steeped with history. The large Greek island was home to Odysseus, the legendary king hailed in Homer’s The Odyssey. Fortunately, it won’t take you ten years to get there. Explore the enchanting caverns of the Drogarati caves, sail to Ithaca on a glass-bottomed boat or marvel at the ancient artifacts inside the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli, Cephalonia’s main town. Or just hide from it all at one of the island’s many private beach coves.

????????????A must to do while your in Kefalonia, you will love the vast experience of Eleni & Thanassis as they take you on a tour of the bees and tell you all about the journey they take in life, one word is fascinating, once you’ve had a cool drink and things explained, you dress in a beekeeper suit and taken to see the bees and then the laboratory to see how the honey etc is processed, then you get to taste and buy products if you wish. We felt sad to go because they make you feel so welcome. Got to be No1 attraction in Kefalonia ????????????

Fteri Beach

Reviewed By alexbW9436MB - Berlin, Germany

We got to Fteri Beach in September 2019 and parked our car right next to the goat farm. We walked around 40min to this wonderful beach where both the way and the way back of red and green points were marked. The path is also suitable for inexperienced hikers but has steep slopes and you should have sturdy shoes. So, if you‘re up for kind of an adventure, the beach is absolutely worth the walk. Otherwise, you can take the water taxi which is also absolutely worth the money.

Agia Eleni Beach

Reviewed By 815stevieg - Glasgow, United Kingdom

This is the best beach we found for snorkelling in Kefalonia. The road down is very narrow and twisty, so definitely not for nervous drivers, but it’s fine for most if you take your time. It can also be accesed from Pelaki Beach by paddleboard or kayak as it’s only 500m by sea (but 15 mins by car!) Limestone & fine shingle beach, gets deep quite quickly to a depth of 6-10m across width of bay. The rocks you can see are the tips of large stacks that go straight down to the bottom. Underwater they look like mini versions of the ’drop-offs’ you might see on marine nature TV shows. Several of the rock formations have mini caves/tunnels you can swim under and through, leading to the other side or into caves in the centre of the rocks, open to sunlight from above. Perfect for providing even inexperienced snorkellers with an adventurous experience which is completely safe. The only downside is that in all the fun, I forgot to take off my wedding ring and lost it! It’s a Greek design in heavy silver (pic attached). If anyone finds it please let me know! It’s not very valuable but I would be willing to pay a reward for it’s return.
