Chalcis (/ˈkælsɪs/; Ancient Greek & Katharevousa: Χαλκίς, Chalkís) or Chalkida (Modern Greek: Χαλκίδα, [xalˈciða]) is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece, situated on the Euripus Strait at its narrowest point. The name is preserved from antiquity and is derived from the Greek χαλκός (copper, bronze), though there is no trace of any mines in the area. In the late Middle Ages, it was known as Negropont(e), an Italian name that has also been applied to the entire island of Euboea.

An extraordinary tavern. Some decades ago, before the globalization and the widespread of the super market stores, there was the concept of small grocery stores which were serving also food, from the stuff they were selling as grocery. Based on this concept, this restaurant is newly renovated but keeps the ambient of the original grocery store that the grandfather of the owner used to have in the begining of the 20th centuty. It is important to highlight the efforts of the owner to find the very best pure local products to sell and serve his clients.

We visited this restaurant twice within our sort visit in Chalkida. The food is amazing and the prices reasonable. The stuff very polite and helpful! We tried the gourounaki in wrapped pita, the pork gyros in wrapped pita, chicken souvlaki, fried potatoes and haloumi cheese. I recommend all of them! The haloumi as a starter is very tasty and is served with tomatoes and a bit of basil sauce. The meat dishes where all nicely cooked and tasty.

A slow service in combination with medium quality food. A bad quality octopus. Fries not properly cooked. The saganaki with the white sauce was nothing to impress neither. We had several dishes and we were not excited with any of them.Bill at the end was reasonable. I would try something different for ouzo and mezedes.

Very nice restaurant with nice dishes in the concept of Volo's tsipouradica. "You can only order the liquer ouzo or tsipouro, and the bring together some small apetizers (mezedes). Nice taste and very good prices. Only con that they have many frozen ingredients. However that is how they can keep the prices low on this type of seafood.Recomended !

We may have caught them on a bad day but all the dishes we tried were very average (tarama, shrimp saganaki) and what was translated on the menu as prawn/crab/lobster salad turned out to be surimi sticks in mayonnaise. The reviews on Trip Adviser tempted us to drive here from Eretria for a meal (the drive turned out longer and slower than anticipated) when the meal we had in Eretria was actually much better and on a much nicer beach!

If you ever find yourself in or around Chalkida, Greece, do yourself the greatest favor you've ever done yourself: Go get seafood risotto at Kapetanios. You can email me your thanks later, I'll be here.Visited once, and also tasted the magnificent cuttlefish salad, exquisite grilled sardines and delicious, homemade eggplant salad (spread on wonderfully grilled oiled bread). An overall sublime seafood experience.I live about 80km away from this place, but I'll drive any time just to eat there again. Hell, I would even walk there!

This is a beach property missing all these years from Khalkis. For many years this beach and its bar had been left by the municipality to ruin and we had stopped going there. Last year a new owner took over and completely refurbish everything. New wooden beach bar, timber comfortable sofas and beach sun umbrellas, Clean and refurbish sand, showers great and attentive service by the beach boys and girls. The sea water is constantly cleaned up by the Euripus golf stream and is ideal for children as it is very shallow for many meters. Nice relaxing music (not too loud) and a beach volley. Good snacks and drinks. This is more of a beach bar-cafeteria than a proper restaurant. We only had a swim, snacks and drinks at the beach followed by lunch at one of the several seafood taverns. The place is also open in the evening with beach parties. We will certainly come more often in the future.
