Find out what Greek restaurants to try in Areopoli. Areopoli (Greek: Αρεόπολη, before 1912 also: Τσίμοβα - Tsimova), known as "Χειμαύα" (from Greek "Χειμαδιών") in the regional Maniot tongue, is a town on the Mani Peninsula, Laconia, Greece. The word Areopoli means "city of Ares", the ancient Greek god of war. It was the seat of Oitylo municipality. Areopoli was called Tsimova by the invading Slavs during the 7th century AD. The Greek War of Independence was started at Areopoli on March 17, 1821 by Petros Pierrakos, also known as Petros Mavromichalis, the last bey of Mani. Now Areopoli has grown into a flourishing town. Its tower houses, constructed with field stones, are distinct from the traditional blue and white buildings that characterize many Greek villages.

The place is really nice, as is device and the food(was had pasta) was very good. However they allow smoking inside which kind of ruined the second part of our meal. If there are no smokers I would definitely recommend it.

We chose this restaurant because of its location and also TA reviews. It was a great choice as the setting was wonderful. The food was delicious and served quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. My seafood linguine was the stand out dish by far, with really generous amount of shellfish and squid. There was a line of people waiting to be seated while nearby restaurants had empty tables. That speaks volumes.

Sun, wind, stone and water are the elements that compose the scenery of the high aesthetic Cafe Restaurant & Bar, Teloneio. Housed in two-storey old buildings. We are located at Limeni of Mani, in a place that the absolute sovereignty of simplicity, of tr
Had some cocktails that were supposed to contain alcohol. Taste was good although rather sweet. After having finished them we were 99% sure that either no or a negligeable quantity of alcohol was used. Regarding the price (12 ⬠/ drink), this can well be called a tourist trap/rip-off. Avoid ordering alcohol here unless it is ouzo or beer from a bottle. By the way: nice setting.

The family fishtavern Kourmas located in one of the most beautiful destinations of Mani , in the traditional village of Limeni. The name is due to a coconut tree that was planted among the rocks , by a monk who lived in the monastery of Panagia Evretria o
And fish tavern, that has a lovely view over the sea. Dishes were tasteful, but I think it's inappropriate when they don't clean prawns properly. Also complementary fruit served in a small atomic plate - not for all of those sitting at the table- (a small piece of watermelon) was simply rediculous.

We had dinner here with friends based on so many of the good reviews we had seen. Our experience was way off. Artichokes that had a strange taste (and not very fresh), the giant beans were ok, and the pork undercooked and underseasoned. Strange atmosphere as well.

Greek traditional food
This restaurant has a greater variety of traditional foods than most of the restaurants in town. Many dishes incorporate traditional ingredients that are hard to find outside the Mani. Wonderful service. There is also a small shop downstairs that sells traditional goods and a few souvenirs.
