A short distance from Edinburgh is a landscape strewn with sturdy hill forts, ancient castles and ruined abbeys that hints at the tumult of the past. It's quite at odds with the picturesque rolling, if windswept, sheep-studded hills and quiet valleys that make all seem agreeably placid to today’s visitor. At its heart are the ruins of four medieval abbeys with Jedburgh, the most complete, the best to visit first for its insights into monastic life. Of the others, Melrose is both the pick of the bunch, and also close to Abbotsford, the sometime home of the Romantic novelist Sir Walter Scott, and a splendid receptacle for his engrossing collection of historical curios. There are fine country houses to visit, notably Mellerstain for its exquisite Robert Adam interiors, and Manderston, the enjoyable swan song of the Edwardian Country House. Anglers should note that the River Tweed is also one of Scotland’s finest salmon-fishing rivers.

Located in over 200 acres of beautiful surroundings on a resort estate, this championship standard course offers a mix of mature woodland and rolling parkland, flanked by the River Teviot.
Beautiful hotel and surroundings with excellent rooms and service. Food was high standard and good choice and range from the bar.

In the current Covid time the club had done everything to make everyone safe. Me the wife and two 12 year old girls had a lovely round of golf and it was very friendly and relaxed. Fairways were suberb but some of the greens need a wee bit of attention but these are strange times with staff etc. I am sure.

Key Features:18 Holes, Cliff-top Links, Par 72, 6404 Yards, SSS:72, Buggy Hire.
A great golf course with some of the best views anywhere, notable holes are the 6th undoubtably one of the most daunting tee shots to hope for and the 13th a 607 yard par 5, the course was in good condition and the greens were quite fast if a little uneven only to be expected at this time of year.the club house has great views over much of the course and the sea, the food is very good and reasonably priced. I'd certainly play here again and would recommend it.

The Hirsel Golf Club is arguably one of Scotland's best kept secrets and indeed has recently been featured in Golf Monthly's Top 100 Hidden Gems of UK & Ireland! Golfers who find their way to the club know they have arrived at a special place from the moment they turn the final bend on the long driveway to the Club and see a magnificent view of the imposing clubhouse and course beyond them.
Very welcoming members and a lovely course. I would recommend for a pleasant day out. The course was in great condition.

Outstanding 18-hole parkland golf course, widely admired and praised. The setting is spectacular, with wide fairways and true greens in the rolling, open countryside of the Scottish Borders. This is a superb golfing experience - a star of southern Scotland. The clubhouse offers excellent food and service, a relaxed atmosphere, free WiFi and a warm Scottish welcome.
The course is tough but fair and the fairways and green in fantastic condition. We played early October in sparkling sunshine but the wind was harsh and chilly. We couldn't find a member of staff when we arrived but some members about to set out for a round were helpful and sorted the green fees. Be prepared to take your time around the course as the views are stunning

Stayed in the A frame, with hot tub. Excellent accommodation, great bedrooms, great living space with a very peaceful setting. Tv with Netflix/Amazon, that’s a first! Good standard kitchen and even a tumble dryer. (No dishwasher or washing machine). Lovely staff, very pleasant. Small restaurant bar with social distancing observed. A beautiful area, so many walks and fantastic countryside. Negatives? Maybe the oven could have been a bit cleaner? (Crumbs in the door hinges), some poor joinery at construction. But that’s just being critical for the sake of it!! Love, love, love it and highly recommend!!!
