The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course is located in Port Douglas, Queensland, and is Far North Queensland's premier golfing experience. The course designed by Thompson, Wolveridge and Perrett is Australia's only tropical links style golf course. The 18 hole layout, set between the rolling mountains and the Coral sea, provides both the recreational and professional golfer a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The club house set overlooking the lush tropical rain forest is open for breakfast and lunch daily, and the Sunday Roast is a must. Whether you are looking for a game of golf, or just to relax on the deck for lunch and a drink, then don't miss the Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course.
Loved it. In super condition, greens were reasonably quick for Bermuda, fairways in mint condition, club and pro shop staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a Peter Thompson design so you know there are options for every level of golfer on every tee. Grass range to warm up on. Good value for $135

Port Douglas has amazing golf courses to play however, you’ll pay the price. Mossman GC is only a short ten minute drive from PD, yet you pay less than half the price to play on a well maintained, tropical country club. Carts are available if required. Cold beer on tap at the 19th. Value for money.

With incredible views over the Whitsundays, and the only 18-hole championship golf course on its own island in Australia, Hamilton Island Golf Club is a destination in itself. Located on Dent Island, the Hamilton Island Golf Club is a 'must do' activity for both novice and professional golfers.
Fantastic afternoon of golf with my wife. The staff from the boat captain to pro-shop were all amazingly helpful, and the course was stunning. Loved it!

I have played both Capricorn resort golf courses back in their hay-day and they were both excellent. Now the resort itself is closed there is just this one Championship Course that is all that remains open. The clubhouse is fairly run-down and just the pro-shop area is open. The front gates are locked closed until 9am sharp, so don't bother to arrive early (as we did). Pro-shop staff are friendly and do what they can under the circumstances. There is no food except for snacks (like packets of chips etc.), though they sell drinks and alcohol to take on course (will give you esky and ice if need). The course (fairways and greens) is in very good condition given that there are apparently only two (2) green keepers to maintain the whole course. It is hard to fathom how just the two of them can keep it as good as what it was. The greens were cut a bit longer than I'm used to and were slow, though ran true and even and took spin from approach shots. The cart paths (some pot holes) and off-fairway garden beds have been let go (I expect in favour of looking after fairways and greens). Also the bunkers are not kept too well (though with Covid restrictions preventing rakes etc. this could be the reason). I didn't get in any bunkers :) The toilet blocks on the way around were not kept clean either, but that didn't bother us, as we were more interested in the course. The drinking water at these toilet blocks was out of a side wall tap and suspect it was ground/bore water (nice enough though). We got there are 9am on a Thursday and there were only a handful of people looking to play then. Once out on the course we hardly saw anyone else on the course. My friend had rung and booked us in a week or two before our trip and it only cost us $40 each with a shared cart for the 18 holes. That was great value for a course still in very good nick. I suspect you could just turn up on the day and get that same price, but may pay to ring and make sure. All in all, though not as good as in its hay-day, it is still a very good course and at $40 with shared cart it is great value. We played from the back championship Black tees and that adds a definite extra challenge to an already challenging par 72 course layout.
