Top 10 Gift & Specialty Shops in Ventura, California (CA)

Ventura, officially the City of San Buenaventura, is the county seat of Ventura County, California, United States. European explorers encountered a Chumash village, referred to as Shisholop, in Ventura while traveling along the Pacific coast. The eponymous Mission San Buenaventura was founded nearby in 1782 where it benefitted from the water of the Ventura River. The town grew around the mission compound and incorporated in 1866. The development of nearby oil fields in the 1920s and the age of automobile travel created a major real estate boom during which many designated landmark buildings were constructed. The mission and these buildings are at the center of a downtown that has become a cultural, retail, and residential district and visitor destination.

Ventura County Potters' Guild

Since its creation in 1957,the Guild has become a non-profit organization, promoting interest in all facets of pottery making and appreciation of the ceramic arts. The Guild opened its first gallery on July 8, 2010 featuring juried members of the VCPG displaying an array of unique sculptural and functional ceramic artistry -- a great place to find gifts. Daily 11-6pm

Several talented local potters exhibit their work here. Some is quite functional, and there are sculptural pieces as well. Generally quite reasonably priced, considering the level of quality and handmade nature. Worth the drive out to the harbor, but there are lots of other things to do and good restaurants in the harbor as well so I'd plan at least half a day.

I sort of knew what to expect when I got in to visit. However, the young lady there exceeded my expectations. Yes, I left with an armful of vitamins which she was not completely pushing, but I was actually in need of and I knew it. The shop is well kept, her line of herbs cannot be disputed. Everything looks healthy and on the up and up. Read my toes and know what's going on in my life? Amazingly she hit all the right keynotes! I'm looking forward to my next visit!
