Enjoy freshly harvested oysters at Melshell Oyster Farm. Experience the views of the Swan River while watching on shore operations. Eat on the farms river bank or Take away, enjoy at your accommodation knowing you have gathered the freshest oysters available. Be the expert at the dining table or around the BBQ with all the oyster farming facts you will learn at your visit. Tours available starting at $10.00 and there are fun free activities for all ages.
You need to turn off the highway a few kilometres north of Swansea and then drive about a bit of a distance to this little gem of an oyster shop. The rustic ambiance, charming sales person and the fantastic fresh oysters were worth every minute of the drive to give us one of our best memories of Tasmania. Based on this experience, I think I have over-rated all my other reviews. The beautiful smile and pride in her work and product shown by the lady who served us (I should have noted her name) reflected the quality of the beautiful oysters, gathered from the leases outside the caravan shop in a glorious environment. Australia can’t do much better than this.

No trip to Zeehan is complete with a visit to the Rock Shop! The owner will give you a glimpse into the mining history of the area and in-depth information about the gem stones themselves! The prices are beyond reasonable and the best I have ever seen sold for! Make sure you make a stop here and shop local!

What is so good about this place is that you can you touch and handle so much, from making the phones work to starting the waterwheel and powering the stamping machine. A great slice of local history. You can easily spend a couple of hours here and buying the triple pass with Platypus House and Seahorse world is good value and provides a full day out. Don't miss this.

Explore Tasmania’s rich Maritime History at the Bass and Flinders Maritime Museum. Located in Northern Tasmania in historic George Town, the centre shares the journey of explorers Bass and Flinders who sailed the sloop Norfolk right into the Tamar River in 1798. The Centre includes other historic boats that visitors can explore in detail within this unique display including the Tom Thumb and the whale boat Elizabeth. The old picture theatre in George Town was specifically modified to house the sloop. The Norfolk is berthed next to a wharf which is setup with a typical dockside warehouse, complete with crew waiting to go aboard
