If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Rome, Italy, you must consider visiting Deruta Perugia, Specifically, a quaint and wonderful old world ceramic shop called Antica Fornace Deruta. It is a multi generation, family owned ceramic shop, which includes many new and antique hand painted ceramics. There are two kilns in the shop that are hundreds of years old. It is very interesting. The shop owner, Giovanni, is a warm and welcoming breath of fresh air. No hard sell here. I purchased many pieces of ceramics, that Giovanni graciously packed and shipped to the US for me. All pieces were received unbroken. Deruta is a mid-evil town, with a town square, where you can sit and enjoy an Italian cup of coffee and maybe meet a local or two. The drive to Deruta, from Rome, is gorgeous!

Went there as part of a "foodie tour." Mr Carletti and his family meet every moment and person with a smile filling guests with knowledge of the olive oil process from picking to storing. Their oil is also among the best I have ever had and we keep a stock available always. Their envioronmental consciousness is unequaled as well.

Ancient origins and modern ideas. IN 1973 Franco Baldini realized a dream. In the founding of Assisi Jewels his vision of offering handcrafted pieces with a modern touch became a reality. Following these principles of creativity, innovation and craftsmanship, Assisi Jewels continues to flourish now under the guidance of Fausto, son of Franco. Our focus is on the noble metals such as gold and silver and on handcrafted materials. Our careful research of the latest advances in materials and techniques continues to ensure that Assisi Jewels leads the industry both in Italy and abroad.
My family has purchased a few beautiful items from Assisi Jewels over the past several years and have always been satisfied with their customer service. A small piece on one of the bracelets we purchased needed repair. We easily contacted them this past February via email to request help. We were provided with pick up delivery (for a small fee) of the bracelet from our home in the US back to them in Assisi. Needless to say, with COVID and quarantines happening in both countries as our bracelet made its way to Italy, we were not optimistic in its return to us. Assisi Jewels kept in contact with us throughout these last several months and today, the beautifully repaired bracelet arrived at our home. It looks perfect - you cannot even tell where the repair had been made. We recommend them to all for their beautiful jewelry and outstanding customer service. Not all could have done what they did during such difficult circumstances. We cannot wait to visit and purchase again from them!

M.O.D.'S ceramics are sold the world over and the company has long been established as one of the most innovative ceramics manufacturer in the city of Deruta. Its modern history began some 50 years back when its gifted founder, Antonio Ranocchia, along with his wife Delia, decided to set up an independent operation following a number of years of employment in some of the best known Deruta ceramics manufacturers of the time. Along with our standard production, we specialized in the production of artistic tiles, available both in single pieces to make frames, mirrors and compositions, and in real artistic tile-panels to be placed as a backsplash in the kitchen or to make very artistic and "unique" bathrooms. Among our references, we were selected by the Italian Sovrintendenza alle Belle Arti" to reproduce special Renaissance-style tiles to cover the famous "Fontana dell'Ovato" in Villa d'Este, Tivoli. We are also well-known for our limited production of some series of artistic table-lamps faithfully reproducing masterpieces of great painters of the past, such as Brueghel the Elder, Canaletto, Raffaello, Tiziano, Corot, etc. We are also highly specialized in the production of patio-tables in all sizes. Everything is manufactured inside our 3000 square metres-building where 15 people work everyday. Tours of the factory in Italian and English with demo of all the different steps needed to obtain a piece of pottery are given from monday to friday for free.
We dropped in “Maioliche originali” last September, looking for presents to bring back from Deruta, a place known for its ceramics since the Middle Ages. We expected a gift shop but we found ourselves in a showroom that looked more like a gallery than a shop. The place was full of lovely ceramic pieces, in traditional (in some cases the patterns were 800 years old) and contemporary design. There was much for every taste, from individual objects (we were most interested in tableware) to whole dinner sets and even tabletops. The choice of objects to bring back was quite difficult. The owner, however, was very kind and patiently answered all our questions about the origin of patterns and manufacture, and thus facilitated our choice. In fact, she even invited us to visit the workshop, where we were able to follow the manufacturing process from the raw material up to the finished product. If you happen to be in the area of Assisi, do take a detour. It is definitely worth a visit.
