You’ll wonder why you don’t live in Portland after you’ve visited this laid-back and friendly city. With a reputation for manicured parks, eclectic nightlife, fine micro-breweries and distilleries, and nature that cuts right into the city, Portland’s a Pacific Northwest must-visit. Don’t miss the famous Japanese Garden, one of the largest and most beautiful of its kind outside of Japan.

Powell's City of Books

The world's largest book store.

Reviewed By MariaP1779DE - Lindstrom, United States

I spent an entire afternoon walking around the nine rooms on three floors browsing at books. The detailed, color-coded map of the library was a necessity. Next time I would opt for the staff tour to learn more about how Walter Powell founded the store in 1971 and get access to the Rare Book Room to see autographed first editions and other collectible volumes.I liked that used books were available as well as new books.

Reviewed By brmusicman - Chicago, United States

I admit it: I’m a stationary and paper goods lover (nerd?); I’m the kind of person who studies and seeks out paper shops when in a new city. I could spend hour in Oblation Papers and Press. It has a huge selection of cards, many from its own original line. They are beautiful and unique and fun to browse. There’s a wonderful selection of journals—brands from around the world. The stationary selection features international brands and house-made sets with gorgeous papers. The pen selection is magnificent. And the place even sells vintage typewriters! Staff were delightful and helpful. A special place to buy special papers to send correspondence to special people. What a gem.
