New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

Saratoga Olive Oil Company is a family business owned and operated by Clint Braidwood, Barbara Braidwood and Chad Braidwood. Our goal is to provide the consumer with the freshest Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the world. At Saratoga Olive Oil Co., we follow the olive crush in the northern and southern hemispheres to provide the consumer with the most recently produced and healthiest oils available anywhere. Our motto is "The best olive oil is the freshest olive oil!".In addition to the varietal oils, we also offer the opportunity to enjoy naturally flavored olive oils and gourmet oils to tantalize your palate. Our white and red balsamic condimento vinegars are imported from Modena, Italy and are produced using the Solera method yielding a rich, smooth product unlike typical balsamics found in your local grocery store. We also offer exotic sea salts for tasting, olive oil based beauty products, pottery, wood products and locally produced bread and crackers.
Yesterday was an extremely snowy day in Saratoga Springs, School was canceled, roads were messy. My daughter & I were in town for 24 hours & had previously looked up the information on the Saratoga Olive Oil Company & were excited about visiting the store. I had called the store numerous times before checking out of my hotel & had not gotten anyone to answer. We were disappointed to say the least but understood considering the winter weather. We had taken a walk on Broadway before driving home, walked by the store & Clint was walking in (the store had a closed sign up). We asked if we could come in & he was incredibly gracious & helpful. We told him we weren’t local & how much we had looked forward to shopping there. He let us in gave us a quick education on Olive Oil & exotic salts, we made our purchases as quick as possible as technically the place was closed. We bought some wonderful Christmas gifts. Thanks again Clint!!

Years ago I was in San Francisco and visited a bookstore that had an in house snack bar and quiet area. Within a few months the Book Revue opened and offered a similar experience and has been improving ever since. From famous authors and personages, signing books and chatting with the patrons to a tasty upscale snack bar with many spots throughout the store to quietly read and you have a winner. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable and they sell the newest of books in all categories and many used hard to find books....sitting side by side on the shelves for ease of comparison. The store sits in the center of a real life small town with a cosmopolitan selection of restaurants and gathering places surrounding it. A great stop for ten minutes or three hours.

Jangmi Jewelry is the best jewelry store I've ever been to!! From the moment I walk up to their counter, Mrs Kim, Mr Kim, and their daughters always give me a warm welcome like I'm family. They were recommended to me when I was in search of an engagement ring. Mrs Kim literally held me by the hand and made an amazing ring for me within my budget that my fiancee (now wife) fell in love with! Months later I was back looking for a wedding band and they delivered! Gave me a beautiful ring that matched perfectly with the engagement ring at an AMAZING price!! They literally sold me the ring I wanted at a huge discount to make me and my wife happy. Fast forward three years later, I found myself going back to them for a push present for my wife. Once again they delivered big time! My wife had hinted she wanted a second wedding band, so they gave me the EXACT same wedding band for the EXACT same price they gave me the first time!! Overall, I am extremely happy and grateful I found Jangmi jewelry. Not only do they have the best jewelry but they are so friendly with amazing customer service, I'm never going to any other jewelry store. Thank you Mr and Mrs Kim for all your help and support!

Even before you park your park your car you can smell the fragrance of baking bread from the Rockland Bakery. Almost always crowded, testifying to delicious baked goods and great prices, the Rockland Bakery entertains as well as serves you. Take the kids to see the bagels come out of the oven and be taken up on a conveyor belt. Hand pick (with provided plastic gloves) your own freshly baked bread, bagels, tasty Irish Soda Bread, Challah, and various rolls. In the bakery department, you can choose from specialty cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and assorted yummy pastries, including sugar free selections. There is also a deli department with a great assortment of fresh salads, hot meals, cold cuts, sandwiches, packaged cheeses and drinks. While often crowded, the lines move rapidly due to the efficiency of the staff.

We first experienced Muranda Cheese by purchasing some of their fantastic Blue Cheese at a Finger Lakes Garlic Festival earlier in the summer which featured many private regional vendors selling their goods. Then when we told a friend that we had out of state family coming into visit he told us Muranda is must do, both for ourselves and our visitors. Right on the money! A peaceful setting a few miles to east of Seneca Lake, Muranda uses a refurbished very old barn as it's commercial home. The history in the late 1800s barn, if the walls could talk, can't adequately be described here. But, it's very cool. The cheese tasting features 16 different samples with very interesting doses of information provided with each sample by a pleasant, knowledgeable staff member. Be sure you have something to drink as you do the tastings. They have various wines from local producers on hand along with craft beer, craft soda and hard cider. The barn has tables both inside and outside on the back porch to hangout and enjoy their cheese products and the other local beverages they sell. They also have quite a bit of local hand-made crafts for sale along with the cheeses that you just sampled. You know it's artisan stuff, small batch produced because not every cheese is available all of the time. We liked Muranda so much that we were there on a summer Tuesday afternoon and were back there for live music Sunday afternoon. it's a relaxing, comfortable vibe and one that has people coming from all over to enjoy.

Visited Saturday 1/23 to grab some of our favorite basil infused olive and compliments to the young man that assisted us. Ended up getting some lemon infused white balsamic vinegar and premium white balsamic vinegar. Then saw some biscottis that are amazing! Definitely we’d to stop in if you’re in Lake Placid!!
