When people find a great vacation getaway, they keep coming back. This 32-mile-long "Queen of American Lakes" is chock-full of lodging, attractions, eateries and just about any form of recreation you can name. A significant player in American history, Lake George is the site of two great forts, Fort William Henry and Fort Ticonderoga, both open to the public. Before plunging into the myriad activities in this family-friendly town, start off with a relaxing lake cruise to learn about the area. Then, take your pick of recreation: parasailing, fishing, diving, jet skiing, hiking, golfing, minigolf, horseback riding and more. If you've got kids in tow, you can't get away without visiting the Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom, New York's largest amusement park. Hikers gravitate to the international trail system or Prospect Mountain, which offers panoramic views from the top; for an easier way up, hop on the tram. Among the cleanest and clearest of major U.S. lakes, Lake George is as splendid today as when Thomas Jefferson described it as "...without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw."

VERY reasonably priced. About an hour, start to finish. Jim was a great instructor, telling fabulous Dad jokes! He had the big pieces, which needed to be cut, or ones he had cut already which you just scoop up. He explained that he started offering those for his group of special adults. It makes things more accessible for them. This would also help smaller children. He was a really great guy, and a fantastic family activity, even with two teenagers! There was even an area set up for "fancy" pictures! There was a scent called monkey fart!

Fishing Tackle and Bicycle Rentals Live Bait and Licenses Camping Equipment Please visit our website for more detailed information
We booked a very last minute trip to Lake George at the end of September 2020 and were scrambling to find a bike rental shop near our campground (Lake George RV Park). A quick Google search led us to Beach Road Bait & Tackle. After a friendly phone call with the owner (I presumed), we were told that due to our traveling during a low-tourism week, we could just show up whenever and scoop up two bikes. No reservations needed. From Lake George RV Park, we walked the Warren County Bikeway for 5 miles and arrived at Beach Road Bait & Tackle. The location was abiding by COVID-19 rules and allowed only a few people in the shop at a time. They had social distancing indicators in place and a plastic shield around the register. We were helped by a gentleman behind the counter within minutes who set us up with two rad TREK mountain bikes -- one of which he said used to be his own bike! The bikes had small scuffs -- not unexpected -- but they were completely tuned up, inspected and ready to use. Helmets were included with the rental, as was a bike lock. We reserved the bikes for 3 days and enjoyed several trips on the Warren County Bikeway. I would highly recommend this location for bike rentals! Reasonably priced and excellent customer service. If I could make a suggestion to the company, it would be to offer delivery/pickup service for the bikes. We did not have a vehicle with us (other than our motorhome with no bike racks) and were told we could not put it into the trunk or undercarriage compartments in an effort to avoid damage to the bikes (understandable). This could have saved us the 5 mile walk to the shop to get the bikes in the first place.

If you're looking for Christmas year-round, look no further! When you step off the streets of Lake George, you are taken to a Christmas-land like no other!
Even though we visited Lake George in September, we just had to stop in here. The shop carries a wide variety of Christmas ornaments and gifts which are grouped into different categories. The cashier was very nice and let a group of us keep looking around even after closing time. The prices are fair and the cashier even personalized some of the ornaments for us, free of charge. We left the store with enough ornaments for everyone in our families!
