The landscape of Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is diverse. Beaches of black, gray, brown and white sand give way to mountains and dramatic waterfalls. Hilo's Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo is the only U.S. zoo in a tropical rainforest. A day trip away are snow-capped Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, with observatories near 11,000 feet on both mountains, and Kilauea Caldera, an active volcano. Back in town are a farmer's market, restaurants, shopping and banyan trees planted by celebrities and politicians.

I find the other review for this place humorous because also learned quite a bit about Taro from the owner of the store, who welcomes you into her shop like it is her living room. The products are all very high quality, and though I normally dislike wearing branding, in this case it is an advertisement to shop small and shop local. Another example of why my wife and I loved the Big Island, because the people here are just so welcoming!

Established in 1977. Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
It's all made right there and you can watch them make it. The shortbread cookies and the best, they use this stuff called butter!!! they are the bomb!! If you are diabetic like my wife they do have a line of Sugar free short bread cookies that are as good as the sugar sweetened ones. They have a full line of chocolate candies and so much more.
