So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

This store specializes in original hand-painted clothing and accessories that look like art pieces. Customers love the unique designs, with the silk scarves being one of the most popular items.
I happened upon this shop as I was wandering around this section of Madrid one afternoon. The displays in the window caught my eye, so I went in. The man inside showed me many options, and was very pleasant and friendly. The handpainted silk scarves are beautiful, true wearable art. The back of the shop is open, where you can see some of them as "works in progress", there were a number of them drying on racks while I was there. After the purchase, he very carefully hand lettered a gift bag for the scarf as well. Small touches like this are what makes a great shop even better. If you are looking for a one of a kind item, I highly recommend Lola Fonseca. I know that I'll be returning on my next visit!

This modest shop attracts international connoisseurs for its expertly chosen and curated selection of craft goods. Mostly functional ceramics, some wood products and occasionally textiles. The hand made ceramics place you somewhere between Spanish tradition, English studio pottery and Japanese less-is-more wabi-sabi mingei vessels. Service in handling, wrapping and shipping is higher than average.

Beautiful store in a great location where you can find gorgeous Spanish products that are not the regular souvenirs. I first learned about this store when a relative gave me a couple of books from this store and I ended buying a copy of each as the perfect gifts for friends. Here you can find everything: food, decor, clothing items...
