Mansions and majestic hotels serve as reminders of Bar Harbor’s past (in the 19th century, it was a favorite vacation spot of society’s upper crust). Today, visitors kayak, explore Acadia National Park, go bird- or whale-watching, and enjoy salty sea air and sandy beaches.

My husband and I stopped by during a cruise stop a few days ago. We were greeted by a very pleasant woman who explained that we could try as many olive oil and balsamic vinegar samples as we wanted! There were dozens and dozens of olive oils and balsamic vinegars to try. I particularly loved the extra virgin olive oil from Portugal, as well as the various fruit-infused balsamic vinegars. We ended up buying two bottles of a delicious white truffle olive oil and one bottle of amarena cherry balsamic vinegar. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The prices of the items are very reasonable considered their very high quality. I am planning on buying more items from their online shop.

I had seen on Facebook a particular bracelet made of local beach stones. Thankfully they still had it when I visited almost a month later. Only problem? It was just a touch too tight. Luckily the jeweler was there and was able to add an extra stone. Down fall? She may not get to it today - bummer since we were leaving Saturday and she wouldn’t be back in until the following week. We agreed to have a stone added. No need to pay in advance! We went to lunch and stepped in on the way back to the car to ask again if they wanted us to pay and she told us that it was almost done! I was so happy and surprised. The sales lady and the jeweler really made my day. What great customer service!

My wife walked into the shop. She is an artist and was looking for authentic Maine made gifts. This place from what the proprietor said has over 80 Maine artists who have their work in the shop. My wife was quite pleased. She was so pleased with the shop that she brought me in the next day. More purchases made. Excellent Maine Made work inside.

Steve (& sometimes Barbara) are great hosts. They will let you browse, or give excellent advice if you ask. I love just listening to them. Steve often expounds on the authors if you converse with him, and his knowledge is always fascinating. They also have a great selection.
