Nicely set in the hills of the Eifel, the "Alte Abtei" is part of a former monastery; the restaurant is decorated with all kinds of antique farming and cooking equipment. The menu is presented (see picture) handwritten on a blackboard. It usually consists only of 4-5 items, all local and freshly made homestyle food. This is a fun place to visit and to dive into the local flavour and it is also very fair priceless (we paid 71.00 Euros for 4 including cappuccinos and some even had desert).

We were staying in timeshare accommodation around the corner, and another guest there recommended coming here for a meal - we ate here twice in our week.Haus Salzberg is a house in the middle of a newish housing estate on the outskirts of Gemund - and does not initially look like a hotel/restaurant. The weather was good for one of our visits; eating on the terrace overlooking the garden was most enjoyable. The fare is mostly seasonal German cooking; the set menus were good value - and we were impressed at the bowl of fresh strawberries produced after asking (in mutually weak German & English) for a sugar-free dessert.Well done to the ladies of Haus Salzberg.
Our party called here for dinner after visiting the Vogelsgang museum, in the Eifel national park. I enjoyed a lovely, very-reasonably priced, meal of venison, with red cabbage and potato croquettes - beautifully-cooked in this family-run restaurant (Karl-heinz and ilse Kruff) ; the nicest meal I had on my holiday in Germany.

A journey to the dam at Urftseemauer by electric ferry from Einruhr is a delight to be savoured. Bring your camera and some walking shoes and once there explore the paths around the lake, cross the dam and enjoy a beer in the clean, fresh air. The food in the restaurant is satisfactory but take a picnic and explore. Wonderful autumn colours but superb in any season.

While staying for a few days in Gemund we used this place most evenings for a drink, and happily sat at the bar enjoying good beer and friendly service. And I deliberately mention this here because many restaurants donât particularly cater for the casual drinker, and itâs nice to come across a place like this that feels like a restaurant and a bar.We also had a meal here and it was what I would call pub grub - and I mean that as a compliment. The menu is simple, the portions are generous, and the prices most reasonable. We tried a schnitzel which was good, but as is the norm round here it was absolutely smothered in a sauce, which kind of defeats the object of making a crispy coated piece of meat! It would be far better to serve the sauce on the side. Might be worth asking - if my German can stretch that far!Bottom line - whether for food, or just a beer or two, Dahmen is a good place to visit.
There is lots to choose from on the menu. The food was rather good. Not the cheapest place in town, but worth it.

Every review about the Brauhaus is about the food, which is fair enough as they do serve good food. This also shows that, although this is a âbrauhausâ it is a restaurant more than a bar, which seems a bit strange. Depending on how busy they are you can generally get just a beer at one of the outside tables, but I felt that the interior really is designed for eating, and doesnât encourage the casual drinker, which is a shame, as I would have thought that a prime aim of a brauhaus would be to encourage people to drink their beer!

The exterior as well as the interior of this restaurant is kitschy to the bone with breathtakingly ugly stuff as decoration. Germans seem to like it, but I am sure that the rest of the world does not.Anyway, the food was a lot better. The trout was fresh, and although drenched in butter, it tasted good. The prices were more than reasonable: we paid 30 Euro including two cups of tea.

Located in a former castle/palace built in the 12th century. Stopped by during an afternoon guided walk and had a late afternoon coffee. Whilst we don't speak German and the staff do not speak English, we were able to order and had a lovely afternoon coffee break. Looked a very interesting restaurant and would like to return to further enjoy the full restaurant deal.
