For a restaurant that promotes itself around the village as the Gingerbread house, you'd think they'd have slightly more friendly staff. We visited twice and on both occasions the staff seemed bothered, to say the least, to serve us. Especially because we spoke English. Today we ordered flamkuchen which took an eternity to come out, however was delicious when it arrived. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with a beautiful canopy of grape vines, it just oozes charm. Can't say the same about the staff, poor effort guys - I'm fairly sure a smile is multilingual...
Gut bürgerliches Speiselokal mit regionaler Küche, sowie hausgemachte Pfälzer Spezialitäten. Gepflegte Weine und verschiedene Biere vom Fass.
We were in the Sasbachwalden area to research family genealogy. We randomly stopped here for an after-dinner drink. The owner went out of his way to pick up the phone and call a local person he knew of with our same last-name. This person came down to the bar and we had a great time visiting and swapping information. The owner did his best to help with English/German translation and truly wanted his guests to enjoy their time in his establishment. PS- traditional German beers and local snaps highly recommended.

Black Forest Gasthaus (Guesthouse) restaurants can get a bit boring with their formulaic decor. Yes, they're all pleasant, spotlessly clean and with decent food, but after you've visited three or four of them the identi-wooden, alpine interiors make you wonder if they're all fitted out from the same central warehouse. In this respect, Bucherhotel Bischenberg is no different. However, it has a few points which make it stand out . . . the setting, overlooking the Rhine valley, is magnificent especially towards sunset on the restaurant's terrace. Secondly, the hotel's low-key literary theme ( with regular music and discussion evenings centred around authors) is unusual, courageous and innovative. It deserves support. Thirdly, the kitchen really does make an effort to produce decent food. We enjoyed excellent asparagus in pancakes and very good Flammkuchen (tarte flambé). A pity that several dishes had a little too much salt. Downsides? The service was very slow, indeed so slow and inattentive that we left without deserts because the waiter just didn't come back in time. Also, consideringthat the restaurant was quiet on the night we ate, we were disappointed that the chef or proprietor didn't come out to say hallo and give us the chance to chat briefly. It makes SUCH a difference to meet the boss. Overall though, worth visiting . . . and you'll see impressive deer and goats in the steep fields next to the restaurant. Prices were very fair too.

Its a typical german pub (of which there are precious few remaining worth recommending in this area) which serves excellent beer from the barrel, terrific freshly cooked food by the proprietor and has great hosts. It really should be listed as there's not
All too often, bar/restaurants in this prosperous area of Germany are rather boring, un-atmospheric, modernish clones. This place stands out like a beacon. Its got a nice traditional decor, always seems busy, offers a good welcome and the food is really good. Its cooked personally by the owner who also finds the time to circulate amongst the customers whilst his wife runs the drinks side of things from the central oval bar where customers also sight up elbow to elbow chatting, drinking and eating. There are frequent 'specials' including wonderful mussels and excellent crispy duck, again foods not often found in your average Badische Kneipe (local pub). This place is easy to miss on Achern's Hauptstrasse, but there's ofetn a knot of smokers standing outside at night, and by day in Summer there are tables outside. Definitely worth a visit in this area. Having been at least a dozen times we can vouch for it!

I was with a group of 20 motorcyclist who used this as a based to tour the Black-forest. The double room I had was large, a balcony, plenty of storage space for clothes and very clean. At breakfast, bacon and scrambled egg were available plus a wide range of meats, cheeses, croissants etc. The restaurant and bar is about 30 metres from the hotel reception. I would ask for a room at the front overlooking the valley which gives a very good view of the German countryside. The food was very good as was the beer on each night we stayed there. The owners make their own very good schnapps which you can purchase. The restaurant is closed on Monday night however there is another restaurant a short walk way. I enjoyed my stay and will be looking to stay here again in the future.

The restaurant serves excellent and Michelin-star awarded gourmet food on the edge of the black forest. We had ordered a pre-fixed 5-course menu, but the chef was very flexible to change several courses due to certain dietary requirements.Every single course was a delight, a festival of flavors. This applies to the actual menu, as well as to the spontaneous substitutes.Service was in the beginning a little distant, but developed during the course of the meal to be friendly and very attentive. The ambience of the restaurant is rustic - typically black forest. Good I guess, if you like it.We will be back in the summer to enjoy the vast garden restaurant.

This place exists since many years and is specialised in salads. You can have them with 20 different toppings like goat cheese, dates in bacon, fish, gambas, beef stripes, veggies etc.the salads are excellent. But bring a little bit of patience. Service mostly is slowly but friendly. The interior design is very cosy.

Dropped in briefly to taste Black Forest gateau in a typical Black Forest village . Pleasant surroundings and delicious cake , and the coffee was good too . One of several establishments offering the traditional confection . Chosen initially as it was nearest to the car park but we weren't disappointed .
