Overall we were a little disappointed. I ate here with my wife a couple of months ago. The food was good - not outstanding - but the whole experience was much too rushed to really be able to enjoy what should have been a relaxed and, dare I say it, romantic Saturday evening out. There were enough positives to make me consider going back sometime.

Go to Loeffelschmiede for authentic local Black Forest food like trout. Freshly prepared dishes with seasonal touch (like asparagus in April/May). Nothing sophisticated but great local dishes with great taste. Excellent value for money. Great deserts - go for the Chocolate Fondant. Attentive and super-friendly service by members of the Helmle family. Clear go!

A traditional German restaurant just a few kms from Neustadt. Easy to find. The serving sizes were generous. Our pork dishes were enjoyable but we struggled to eat everything. We finished with apple strudel (we are keen to find the best in the area. Sadly it wasnât). All in all a good traditional restaurant.

In my opinion, Schnitzer is a step above in terms of pub atmosphere and food. While you can get a steak at most pubs in town, the cut, quality and presentation at Schnitzer make it distinctively better. Was cooked perfectly medium rare and came with a very fresh garden salad and nice fried potatoes. The interior of Schnitzer literally sparkles, reflecting it cleanliness and pride of ownership. They have a very pleasant little beer garden directly across the street where they have their parking lot. While it's right in the heart of Bonndorf, the view is from the beer garden is lovely -- a perfect spot on a nice afternoon.

Situated in the heart of the Wutach Canyon in the middle of the Black Forest the Schattenmuehle offers a variety of services. A big beer-garden and a traditional restaurant with Black Forest atmosphere invite to stay for lunch, coffee, snacks or dinner an
After a great day in the Black Forest we wanted a nice local pub with traditional German food. We drove past the Schattenmühle and it looked inviting. A lovely position in the Wutach valley with a big terrace catching the afternoon sun. When we saw the waitress in a traditional German outfit (upholstered like a Victorian sofa) we knew that this is a tourist trap, but we were hungry and could not be asked to drive on. The menue confirmed our concerns with dozens of pages of meals and hundreds of options. My youngest daughter quite rightly questioned why there were Harry Potter pictures photocopied into the menu. The food to no surprise was a complete disappointment. Schnitzel and chips, normally a fail-proof option, was almost not edible, the chips, clearly re-heated were soaked in fat. Grilled Schweinzhaxe had also seen better days and was grilled in the distant past and re-heated with wobbly crackling. The accompanying Bratkartoffeln were burnt and drowsed in seasoning mix. A large mixed salad with cheese and fresh fruit was a simple bowl of lettuce with blocks of supermarket cheese, no fruit in sight and no bread. The waitress disappeared for prolonged periods of time and we had to go and find her in the kitchen on several occasions to ask for ketchup, bread and more drinks. After a thoroughly disappointing meal we decided to forego pudding and asked for the bill and received the icing on the cake. Despite clearly catering for tourists (probably by the bus-load in season) the establishment does not accept credit cards (of any kind)! Cash only or the German ec-card, similar to a debit card, but not available anywhere outside Germany. As the meal was also more expensive then we had paid anywhere else in similar pubs in Germany, my Euros where insufficient, pounds declined and I was requested to drive a 15 mile round-trip to the nearest ATM. Be warned, don't go!The only good thing: I've written my first ever trip advisor review.

While staying in Loeffingen for five days, I enjoyed several meals at the Ochsen, located in the heart of town. The service was always good; the staff friendly and helpful with the menu, with typical Black Forest fare. It was a quiet, pleasant place to dine, and had a cozy, rustic atmosphere. I believe I had goulash soup on two occasions, and it was excellent. The prices were very reasonable. The staff was acquainted with my B&B hosts, so I knew it was popular with the locals. I was impressed with the fact that I was greeted as a friend on my second visit. A quality establishment in a really charming town.

Wellness-Hotel & Restaurant Hexenschopf Restaurant Hexenschopf- professional kitchen And a dedicated service at a high level And at reasonable prices. The restaurant offers cozy seating for many guests. For groups as well as for the romantic couple a meal
In the Black Forest it seems that most places close on Mondays. Fortunately we alighted upon the Hexenschopf restaurant. Great Pizza, and the menu looked good too. There were 15 Americans in the night we went and their food from the menu looked very appetising too.
