So I actually went here two nights in a row.The carpaccio I ordered as a starter uses good ingredients, nice oil, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, proper filet steak meat. However, it tasted salty ! Tried the oil on its own, alright. Then the meat, alright. So it's been seasoned with salt, very weird and never experienced this before !Main dish steak with mushrooms was very tasty, as were the rosemary seasoned potatoes. However, the salad was really salty, again I can't understand why you would like to season a salad with salt ?I had to say something about this, as they definitely use good ingredients and prepare nice food.Luckily the owners were very open to my comments, and the salad was replaced immediately. As we talked about it, they told me it's what most Germans want, as they typically asked for salt in the past. If I were them, would put salt on the table, but definitely not over-salt their dishes, such a shame.Liked the Barbera d'Alba wine and good espresso !Second night I returned and everything was perfect. Very tasty and tender american steak, nice ruccola, Parmigiano-Reggiano and aged balsamic, accompanied by homemade green colored noodle pasta. Yummy.Got a very smooth and tasty grappa after the meal, even though I'm not really a fan of grappa, I could tell this was good quality. Will definitely return when visiting Kempen again.

Restaurant Haus Sonneck is located in Nettetal between the A61 and A40 highways and not far from the Netherlands border. Haus Sonneck is family owned and operated since the 18sixties. Good food, a pleasant atmosphere and adequate service define its character. We came on a Sunday and the place was relatively full, a good sign. The menu is traditional German Landküche. We skipped the starter and went for a classical course of asparagus and wine. We were pleasantly surprised. Also the dessert was nice. Dishes are well presented and tasty. Haus Sonneck is a restaurant that definitely deserves its Michelin Bib Gourmand. We recommend Haus Sonneck and to anyone who seeks nice food accompanied by a good glass in a pleasant ambiance.

Who looks for a historical ambience combined with high food quality, should not miss this place. The castle looks like medieval and the rooms are partially decorated with old statues. The menu contains special dishes from the region (e.g. rheinischer Sauerbraten) and are served properly from friendly waiters. Prices are not overstated. Clear recommendation!
Urig, aber in die Jahre gekommen. Im Biergarten als Zwischenstopp einer Radtour ok. Hatten nur Kaffee und Kuchen. War in Ordnung. Die Bedienung hatte allerdings den Jakschritt drauf. Hätte etwas zügiger gehen können.

We visited the Auffelder Bauerncafé in July 2017 by bike. In need of some proper refreshments and energy-filled food, we sat down in the sunny garden of the restaurant for a meal. The menu is nicely varied and mainly resting on a foundation of German cuisine (meats, potatoes). The ingredients are self-picked from behind in their own fields, making the food very fresh. Moreover, they have their own bakery offering a great mix of breads and cakes. Coming back several days later, the breakfast buffet offered many options to choose from, including fruits, vegetables, and as many drinks as one wishes for (coffee, tea, juices). For VEGANS and GLUTEN-FREE customers, there is always an option, but one should ask and inform the friendly and forthcoming staff.PROS:- Fresh and local- Seasonal variety of dishes- Big portions (German style!)- Friendly staff- Clean- Big cake slices- Familiar, farm-like atmosphereCONS:- Slightly pricey- Sometimes very crowded (reservation for breakfast buffet recommended!)- Very hidden (which can also be a pro!)SUMMARY: Whenever we are in the region, we will go again! :-)

In my view pancakes is something typically Dutch and they're usually sweet. In this place you can eat sweet pancakes (like apple) but also pancakes with Chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce. Fact is they're all great! Next to that the pricing is fabulous. Enjoy sitting outside if possible in simmer but also inside enough room for a colder day. Recommended!!
