I've eaten there with family and friends. A very classy restaurant with professional service, excellent food and superior wines. Highly recommended.

The location is idyllic, the menu and food delightful, the wine good and affordable, but I couldn't pay for our guests and ourselves because the Baiken does not accept US/Canadian credit cards - so bring cash!! May explain why there were lots of locals here, and very few tourists. This is certainly a locals' secret, as it is in a tiny town (Eltville am Rhein), up the hill at the edge of a large vineyard, in the Rhine Valley near Ruedesheim. The food is very classic German, and well prepared. Two of us had the veal shanks with chanterrelles and a demi-glace. Another had a pork cutlet, with spaetzle. The wait staff was most accommodating, allowing us to switch veggies, etc. We shared a cheese and asparagus quiche as an appy. For wine, we chose a "Graubergunder" (?grey burgundy?) as our wine, like a flavourful pinot gris, costing about 20 euro a bottle, although there were more expensive choices available. Crème caramel and cappuccinos for desert. The outside seating is substantial, with the patio looking down on the Rhine, and there is a large "Gaststube" inside as well. We'll find a way to get back!

I was very impressed with the Sandhof, which has two sections, the Landgasthof (country inn), which is much more than an inn, and the gourmet restaurant, which is a Gault Millau hatted restaurant. We were at the Landgasthof, which served high quality, creative, European food at a reasonable cost. This is a place for friends of top end cuisine. My four points are for the Landgasthof section. I had a lobster cocktail with shrimps and clams, which was excellent, followed by lamb carré. I can only recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Very impressive location, packed with guests. An amazing wine list, specializing in regional wines; very carefully selected and very reasonably prices. Respect about that!Extremely professional and friendly service team. The food however ranges from "amazing" to "it's OK", depending on the course you're eating. This inconsistency is not unexpected on this level of dining. Maybe we caught them off guard on a bad day. I hope so for them and I wish them to get the food organized in a flawless manner for future customers. I have no doubts they are able to perform on this level.

This is small castle-hotel with a romantic atmosphere. Parking is possible in front of the hotel. Bedroom is cosy, bathroom clean and charming. But the breakfast was a big disappointment.During our stay in Germany we booked six different castle-hotels. This was certainly not the cheapest, but compaired with the others it was not what I expected. Conclusion: good hotel, but not a topper. For the same money you can find nicer places to stay.

The address is listed as Eltville, which is technically correct, but it is important to know that this restaurant is actually in Martinsthal. It is popular and you will probably have to reserve a table beforehand - we did. There is a good selection of local wines and an equally good selection of dishes, all at quite reasonable prices. We were in a party of five and the total bill for the evening came to some 115 euros. We all enjoyed what we had - lamb, pork tenderloin, minced meat 'casserole', etc. and the service was both friendly and prompt. We would happily return.

Warm welcome, wonderful atmosphere perfect for couples, friends and even business. Simple menu, outgunned by an extensive wine list. But don't let the simple menu fool you. It is superbly executed- with a focus on quality local ingredients, superbly cooked, beautifully presented and showing the chef clearly knows his craftThis is a restaurant that punches way above its weight and is well worth the drive (even from Frankfurt). Do book though.

We were aiming for the 'Adler Wirtschaft'; but it was closed. Zum Krug is exactly what you expect of a traditional village hotel/restaurant: all heavy, dark oak furniture and panelling. The food likewise: not bad; but somewhat over-salted, and with an excess of rich saucing. My colleague's Wiener Schnitzel she described as 'average'.The wine list was almost exclusively Rhein riesling, with small later sections labelled 'non-Riesling' and even - horribile dictu - red wines. The price was Euros 55 for the two of us - quite reasonable, for such a touristy village.Overall: adequate; not memorable.

We usually visit during the autumn / spring when wine soup is available, this time the soup was different but equally delicious. I ordered the mushroom dumplings which were served with a fresh and tasty salad - very filling. My husband ordered a schnitzel (never one for trying something new) which he enjoyed immeasurably. The views of the Rhine, itâs river traffic, the vines and the castle make it a very special restaurant, one that we will return to again and again. On a more mundane subject: the newly refurbished toilets are wonderful too.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend from Wiesbaden who grew up in the area. The food is excellent - we were served a Schnitzel with Asparagus, young potatoes and "grüne Sauce" (a blend of seven herbs mixed together and served as a sauce) I strongly recommend to try it. Mind that asparagus is only served during a specific time of the year. Otherwise the menu offers other traditional dishes and prices are fair. Try to get a seat outside - it's very pretty.
