Celle (German pronunciation: [ˈtsɛlə]) is a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser and has a population of about 71,000. Celle is the southern gateway to the Lüneburg Heath, has a castle (Schloss Celle) built in the Renaissance and Baroque style and a picturesque old town centre (the Altstadt) with over 400 timber-framed houses, making Celle one of the most remarkable members of the German Timber-Frame Road. From 1378 to 1705, Celle was the official residence of the Lüneburg branch of the dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg (House of Welf) who had been banished from their original ducal seat by its townsfolk.

On our last evening in Celle we chose to dine at our hotel, after an excellent stay, having enjoyed several outstanding German style breakfasts each morning. Though typically formal, as German fine dinning tends to be, there is a certain comfort in the correctness and formality with which one is approached. You are made to feel welcome with respect... something often very lacking Stateside. At no time are you however rushed in this very comfortable and cosy environment. The meals are excellent in quality and taste, as well as plentiful. Local sourcing is even listed on the last page of the menu. We chose a steak evening... Argentinian Filet as well as Zebra tenderloin... both excellent and well seasoned with appropriate and complementing side dishes as well as sauces. Accompanied by an excellent German "Spaet Burgunder" red wine... and topped off with a decadent "Eis Becher" dessert with walnuts and eggnog! The menu has something for everyone including the kiddos and is also described in English with a very fluent English speaking staff. We will certainly be back!

I have past the Blue Angel many time, never tempted to walk in; at first glimpse, it doesn't look appealing, but the first impression is wrong. It's a very nice, old school, German restaurant with an excellent choice of dishes; more choices than most Celler restaurants. And much more affordable too. But what counts is taste. Taste and gastwirdschaft is King at this restaurant. I will be back for more, I can only endorse you to check out for yourself.

This was a warm and inviting restaurant. We enjoyed their dark beer on tap with our meal. The asparagus menu was out (the season for white asparagus) and one of us had white asparagus with a turkey cutlet (puten schnitzel). The other had a herring plate. We both enjoyed our meals. The price was very reasonable for our dinners. The service was good. Remember that many German restaurants, including this one, require cash; they do not take credit cards.

We had enjoyed a beer earlier in the afternoon and had browsed the menu which looked good. We returned for an evening meal and were not disappointed. The lady serving us was helpful and friendly and assisted in our choices. We ordered a beef stew dish and pork and potatoes. Both were excellently cooked and really tasty. The tables outside were quiet but good for watching the world pass by. Would recommend.

We stumbled upon Martas, looking for somewhere different to eat. What a little goldmine. The food service is speedy, the service is fantastic with good English spoken. Food quality is great. Martas rates as one of my 'must eat here' places in Celle which I visit quite frequently.

Picturesque Celle has an abundance of restaurants and we had a hard time choosing the right place for the one night we spent here in this city. Instead of going to one of the more "elegant" places, we finally decided to try our luck at this small, cozy local place that just exuded ambience the moment we poked our head in on a preliminary visit. Reservations made, we entered an hour or so later: luckily we had the reservations as the place was quite full at that still rather early hour. We opted for the fish (Rotbarsch) on the daily special menu as well as for a Schnitzel with Pfifferlinge (chanterelle mushrooms). Both came with a generous appetizer of mixed salad and were served with heavenly Bratkartoffeln (roasted potatoes). Both the main courses were quite good but the winner definitely were the roasted potatoes! Overall good solid food, nice rustic ambience, food quality good to very good, service very prompt and friendly/funny, definitely a place worth visiting when in this lovely town.

Visited Saturday night to meet friends after a hellish drive from London.Sat at the bar and as soon as our jugs were emptied...more appeared. Couldn't get our heads round you could smoke INDOORS!?!? Beautiful smoking room. Air filters. Widescreen TV. The lot (see pics ) why can't we have this in UK? Go outside for a fag in the rain?

Classic and it delivered as expected. They have a outdoor area in front of the entrance but more tables below in a very nice and historical environment. Service was great and we had perfect attention from staff. Food was as expected, schnitzel, liver, creme brûlée etc. If you looking for a traditional German restaurant this is perfect. I could find schweinhaxe on the menu but who knows it maybe there tomorrow.

We were fortunate to make a short notice reservation due to a cancellation and we were not disappointed and now know why you will need to book. Absolutely top class food, fantastically cooked. A small but targeted menu which offered something for everyone. Fabulous service. Great wines. And I will say it again great local food. The setting was unobtrusive like as the name suggests eating in your ess zimmer but classy with great attention to detail. Overall a place to go for a special occasion as the prices do reflect the high quality of the food, setting and service. We will be coming back.

Due to the beautiful weather we were able to enjoy dinner in the Biergarten. The traditional German food was excellently prepared and the service was nothing short of amazing. Two ladies with constant smiles and friendly words. The five star rating is due to the overall experience. This is not Michelin star food. It is honest german food perfectly prepared. When in Celle or surrounding it is worth to try this restaurant. Oh, and try there special dish at least as a starter. Very nice.
