Though probably best known as the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 (and of reunified Germany until 1999), Bonn actually has a history dating back to the 1st century BC. Roman soldiers were stationed here and the largest known Roman fort was built at Bonn. In medieval times, the town gained prominence when the Archbishop of Cologne transferred his seat to Bonn. The city's most famous son is Ludwig van Beethoven, born in 1770 at Bonngasse, where a museum now honors him.

In Germany, they have a few synonyms for their food. You can use Rustikales or Deftiges. Both meaning solid german dishes. The Elephant is another fine place to go to when you are in Bonn. A place where you get what you order in sync with your expectations. Enjoy.Dear peter3764,Thank your for taking the time to write such a kind review.Best of regards,Martina Mayer

I live in Germany and traveled to Bonn for one day for business. It was 22 hrs and every kitchen was closed, but this place still was open for longer. We had dinner (schnitzel with champignon sauce, french fries, salad, beer and ice cream) and it was ok. Having tried lots of traditional German food I can tell that here is fine and our meal wasnât expensive. The rathausplatz is also nice to see, so itâs a good place to sit down in outside tables and enjoy a beer, and itâs close to the train station. If youâre very little time in Bonn, you can walk around there, eat/drink there and at least youâll have seen a bit of the city center and had a German experience.

We met Doris and Alex here for lunch before setting out for Konigswinter. The dining room was cozy and very old German. Our lunches were very good, I had salmon, sliced thinly and uncooked. It was accompanied by roasted potatoes and dill spinach. Even for someone who is not a salmon fan, I enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the view of the Rhein River and the grounds added to the experience.

This is central in Godesberg and we love coming here for a cocktail at happy hour as the choice is terrific, with weekly specials (beware the St Pauli Killer, which truly lives up to its name!) The service here is always excellent, friendly and fast. You can also eat something with you drinks, as happy hour means 2 drinks for the price of one and they are not diluted with lots of ice unlike some other places. We go for the mixed antipasto platter to mop up the alcohol. Must say however have been here for coffee with aged relatives and the service is also great, as is the terrific Sunday morning breakfast. Always a pleasure to come here.

A nice restaurant, serving Bavarian beer (Paulaner) as well as typical German and Bavarian dishes. We had a couples of beers, half a roasted duck and a schnitzel. The quality of the food is good, nothing to complain.Prices area average, most main dishes vary from 12 to 16 euros, so the value for money is really good.Service is friendly.

When we entered, we asked for a table inside and were shown a table right next to entrance with lots of people traffic. The waiter didnt even ask if it was ok and left without looking at us. We left right away, naturally.

I have picked Reduttchen restaurant based on good reviews I read on TripAdvisor on a recent visit to Bonn. I have to concur with the good reviews. Service was excellent, with great attention to details and the needs of diners. The food was exceptionally presented and very tasteful. Between the 5 of us, we had tasted most of the menu. We were all highly satisfied. The selection of dished is rich and diverse; the presentation is enticing; the taste is amazing. It is also very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it! I would like to point out the Pina Colada dessert; it is a celebration of coconut ice cream on a crunchy bottom, submerged in a pineapple sauce. It was absolutely delicious.Dear tlvla, many thanks for the great compliments. It's nice to hear that TripAdvisor reviews have been confirmed. Because the good reviews are for us the reason to continue to work on us.Also, since you made such a good review, maybe helping other guests find their way to us, thank you.Since even many Bonner have not noticed what is hiding in Bad Godesberg. ;)And if you are from sunny California again in Bonn, we look forward to welcoming you in the Redüttchen. The Redüttchen team
