We stayed in the hotel and had our dinner in the restaurant. I thought it unfortunate that their main dishes were a mixture of traditional and exotic ingredients that made that most of them not something apetizing by the names of the ingredients. Sort of confirmed during our dinner. Expensive for German habits

we ordered the baked fish, both Trout and Karp, the trout was very good the Karp a bit less. The local specialty called Pepper Haxe (Pork-leg in pepper sauce) was excellent. We had a baby with us, just earning to walk and the people in the restaurant were very understanding and of course there was a baby chair.

Kloster Banz is a splendid baroque former Benedictine monastery with fine views across a valley in Ober Franken (Upper Franconia) in northern Bavaria. It is now owned by a political foundation linked to the german CSU party, not a promising venue for food and drink, you might think. However you would be wrong because it has a splendid, shady public beer garden. In our three or four visits we tried jaegerschnitzel, weissewurst, leberknoedel soup, apple struedel with ice cream and a coupe Danmark ice cream with beer or coffee to drink. All were delicious and good value for such a fine spot. And they even took MasterCard, which is often not the case in Germany.

We came here on someone's recommendation on a Saturday evening. The beer garden was full so we expected a wait. Our drinks came fast but there was quite a wait before my husband's food came and almost 40 minutes after that before my salad arrived. My husband's chicken was just the way he likes it but whatever you do don't order a salad - it consisted mainly of convenience products and what was fresh (according to the service staff) was so drowned in the convenience sauce that you couldn't tell anyway.

We walked from Lichtenfels to the Vierzehnheiligen shrine which was a lot longer than we thought through the woods. It was with a great sense of relief that we got to the church and saw the Biergarten. Excellent beer, nice Bavarian pub food and a great place to rest weary legs. The only thing, keep an eye on the bus timetable, otherwise it is a long walk back !! Nice little playground for the children too.
Wir hatten ein T-Bone Steak für 2 Personen und das Fleisch war perfekt zubereitet. Der Service ist überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend und die passenden Weine sind absolut stimmig. Absolut empfehlenswert.

When we were in Bad Staffelstein we wanted to visit a typical German restaurant and we came across this one. It was a perfect choice - the food was amazing and so were the people and the atmosphere! If we ever go to Bad Staffelstein again, we will surely eat here :)

We had been there for lunch and got a herb soup as starter. I had a salad with potatoe chips and chicken (unfortunately it was also fried so I have to say, there's no low calorie meal on their menu...). The others had deer, duck and calf with German potatoe dumplings and vegetables. Also nice, delicious and it was enough to be totally satisfied (men as well as women ;) )So, if you're not on a diet, full recommendation for this "old mill".

The restaurant is right in the center of Bad Staffelstein next to the city tower. Very nice 'old-style' atmosphere. Service was friendly and fast. The food was delicious in a kind of 'home-made' style - I can highly recommend the grilled trout served with horseradish, potatoes and salad. Everything was ultra fresh and crispy. Great value for money,
