We stopped here for a quiet coffee and tea after visiting the abbey. The two ladies who run the place and make the pastries were welcoming and friendly. The pastries were great and the setting is wonderful. They also sell hand-made pottery and other items. We were glad we stopped.

Popped into the Hotel with friends after walking up and down Vezelay high street. We ordered 2 glasses of cremant, a G&T and a Perrier water. First problem, no cremant!! Really? In Burgundy? Next, after changing to 3 G&Ts and the water, we received three very small tumblers of G&T with no lemon (which we then had to ask for). Not good - the big surprise though was the price...â¬37. Wow!

Welcome to La Coquille Auberge, in an authentic setting, - 18th century dining room with chimney, - 12th century medieval cellar, - Private outdoor garden Our dishes come from local grown products : the Charolais beef comes from Come Farm and Watterlot bu
On a beautiful sunny late-September afternoon, Madame and I were working our way down the hill from Vezelay Abbey when we happened upon Auberge de la Coquille, and tucked in for a very enjoyable lunch. We sat out on the small terrasse behind the restaurant, where we enjoyed good rose wine and good solid cooking at better-than-fair prices. Highlight of the occasion was the magret de canard I ordered, but all of our dishes (including my creme brulee) were nicely turned out. Service was friendly and fast.As the name of the establishment implies, it was situated to attract and serve pilgrims on the route to Santiago de Compostela. There were several present on the terrasse that day, even though I'd guess high pilgrimage season might have begun to wind down several weeks before. They, too, seemed happy with the restaurant. We would certainly return --One nice note for us senior diners -- the toilets in this establishment are located on the same level as the main dining room and terrasse. A small thing, I know, but for the footsore (or, just plain old-and-stiff) visitors among us, good news...

A hot summer day, walking the hill of Vezelay, exploring the abbey, eventually you need to recharge. Le Vezelien turned out to be the ideal spot for it. Whether our group members opted for the 'plat du jour' or ordered a la carte like me, who chose the Steak tartare from Charolais beef (fantastic) - everybody was happy and satisfied. Refreshed we continued exploring, stunned by the amazing price/value relation this bistro offers and pleased about the friendly welcome and attentive service.

I admit we'd just had lunch, took a little stroll to work off the calories and then we saw ... well, neither me nor my sweetheart can resist Macarons, freshly baked and delightful presented. So a cafe gourmand and a nice package of macarons added to a wonderful stay in Vezelay.

Popped in for lunch as other places were closed. So glad we did. Quaint farmhouse decor. Menu is on the blackboard. Server spoke almost no English. We interpreted that only the house special was left...tet de veau. We got it not knowing what it was. Glad we did. Never had veals head before. We all loved it. Kinda like beef stew. Be sure to try it.

We stumbled across Le Crecholien when walking from our B&B in St Pere to nearby Vezelay. We were looking for somewhere low-key and cosy, and this place fit the bill perfectly. The hostess was incredibly welcoming and friendly without being over-bearing. The clientele when we were there (a Sunday night) were slightly older, and the ambience was decidedly laid-back. The decor was somewhat dated, but in a lovely, comfy sort of way. But, most importantly, the food was excellent. Local specialities and more standard selections were both offered, and our choices of a shared salad, chicken and beef were all delicious. As was the carafe of local white wine. When considering the busy-ness of Vezelay's often crowded streets, sometimes it's nice to escape to somewhere a little quieter - and Le Crecholien is the perfect, unpretentious, relaxed and welcoming bolt-hole. It's great value and definitely recommended.

My husband and I ate dinner here because we were staying at a nearby hotel. I had the best quality smoked salmon for an appetizer, and the monkfish entree. My husband had the scallops appetizer and Thai prawns for his entree. Everything tasted very fresh and perfectly seasoned. It was a somewhat upscale restaurant, but they didn't seem snooty and didn't make us feel bad because of our inability to speak French very well. Good, moderately priced wine.

Traditional and full of flavour... Located at the foot of the main street and close to the parking areas, this restaurant offers traditional Burgundian fare and other regional dishes based on fresh quality produce.
We have dropped here and did really enjoy.A small place, where we felt welcome and nicely cared for. We choose the piece du boucher (beef, choice of the butcher) and its small potatoes. Perfectly prepared and served, with a glass of Irancy (highly recommended)2 pieces of advice:1. Book in advance2. Come early, the tenants are only two to welcome you, cook, serve...

The location of the restaurant is great--just opposite the Basilica in Vezelay. You will need reservations. The decor is quite nice. I was expecting a gastronomic experience, and so was a bit disappointed. The food (lamb) was good, but not exceptional. All in all, a little pretentious for what you get.
