If you are up for it go for the surprise menu. Really nice dishes. A small, cosy and quite environment. Unfortunately not always to crowded, especially if you come later (after 7pm) in the evening you will end up being the last guest soon (after 10pm).

It's a Bistronomie settled in a small art-village with a globally kitchen and an international interieur with vintage design from all over the world.
The indoors part may look a bit intimidating, sort of like a luxury restaurant. We stayed outside, a bit less pretentious, we found the food top quality, the service good, and the prices reasonable, including the drinks. Recommended!

Three of us went there a few nights ago. It was dinner time, andw the place was packed with people coming for the "dagschotel" (dish of the day). This is an excellent way to dip into the home cooking of Holland (here we had "stamppot", a sort of mashed potato with greens in it and meat on top). There is a good informal athmosfere, service is correct, and you get good value for money. We spent under 100 EUR for the three of us, including starter, main dish, wine and coffee: for Bergen, this is good value for money. Smokers can sit outside with a blanket.

The last thing I expected while staying at a nearby hotel was to find such a good restaurant (now trading under its new name of "Struin") in such an out of the way place. I was served by the owner/manager and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening eating some quite exceptional cooking in a tastefully decorated dining room. For starter I chose fresh tuna sashimi, which was superb. As the main course I went for my favourite fish - Dorade. This is a fish that I have eaten in many countries of the world, but this one proved to be the best by some margin. The herbs and spices used in the cooking and for the dressing really brought out the special flavour of the fish and I ate every morsel. For dessert the chocolate tart was delicious.
Free parking and an great location. The food is average. There was a sign to say they no longer include vegetables or chips etc with the main course as they find there is to much waste ??So you have to order sides This makes the place very overpriced Maybe they could reduce the portion sizes ? Good service

We wanted to have our last evening meal overlooking the North Sea and more or less came across the Strandpaviljoen Struin by accident after having driven through nearby Schoorl. We parked in the pay car park and strolled over to the beach pavilion which was half full that Thursday evening. We got a warm welcome from the owner/manager who suggested that we might want to sit at a table in the corner bearing in mind that the sun was streaming through the windows looking out to the sea.Having settled ourselves in a very polite and friendly waitress handed out the menus and took our drinks order. I had the Texel Skumkoppe bottled beer. Lovely. Our party of six all found something interesting to order. I went for the mussels special - essentially a large pot of mussels, chips, various sauces and a generous helping of side salad. All for 19,50 Euro. Service throughout was excellent - in fact the quiet, professional and polite demeanour of our waitress certainly made our evening dinner something special. And at the end, having paid a bill of ca. 130 Euro including tip for 5 adults and a two year old, we had enough time to stroll over to the beach and watch the sun set on our last vacation day in Holland.

Restaurant hotel Merlet is a very nice 1 star restaurant in Schoorl. The ambiance is very nice and the lights perfectly dimmed. The atmosphere is just perfect and the staff is very nice and professional. The wine list is good and the pricing is reasonable for a 1 star restaurant. The food is as expected very good but never overdone. The value for money is excellent and we had a very good time. I would highly recommend it.

Despite the nice weather we were able to get a table. The restaurant has a nice athmosphere with friendly staff. The menu is compact with fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. There is a good wine card and our wine (Sanoma County Zinfandel) was great. This restaurant deserves to be in the top spot in Bergen!
