The chef here does a great job. Presentation is good and food is delicious. We had a chicken dish that was excellent. Breads are fresh and good. Wines are reasonable. Desserts are excellent and there is variety. Alsatian foods are highlighted.

We ate lunch here, on a cold and rainy Sunday, after reading about it on the internet. Unfortunately, our experience was not very good. We ordered snails which were very small but tasted good. The house speciality was "Five-Seafood-Sauerkraut which we ordered. It arrived in a large serving bowl from which we served ourselves. The white fish was dry, the (farmed) salmon had no taste, the crawfish was so tiny, that it was impossible to peel, and the Sauerkraut was almost raw and cold. Boiled potatoes were mixed with the Sauerkraut. We left most of it untouched. The waiting staff was not very friendly. When we mentioned our disappointing experience to our hosting family, they confirmed that it was a restaurant people went to to be seen, not for the food. We didn't go back and cannot recommend it. However, the uniquely Alsatian decorations are charming and to a large degree original.

On our way to our final destination for a short stay in the Alsace, we had lunch at this restaurant, which was a very pleasant experience. We opted for the lunch offer with three courses, including an amuse and mignardises. The food was delicious, starting with a velouté and poached egg, a veal liver main followed by a lovely tartlet. We combined this with a excellent Viré Clessé and for our red wine fundies a great Mercurey. Service was quick and friendly. All in all a great lunch for a very decent price level in a restaurant of such a high standard.Toute lâéquipe est heureuse dâavoir contribuer a vous faire passer un très agréable moment gastronomique.Au plaisir de vous acceuillir a nouveau.Cordialement,Yves Kieffer

Spent the last two weeks in France cruising a canal and touring Champagne. This was the best place I ate the entire time. Great food, great service, wonderful presentation, good wine and desserts. The aroma coming from this place first caught our attention. It's a small cozy cellar right off the canal. We tried to get in first on a Saturday night, but the place was packed. We made reservations for later in the week and arranged our trip back thru the canals to be sure we could eat here. Was as good as we had hoped.

For the second time we were there and found the same hospitality, friendliness, but most important quality and quantity of the food. We felt very spoiled and had a delicious experience. Quality wines for moderate prices. A flood of small surprises, amuse-gueuls and entremets made us almost dizzy. Only critic: we could not change the desert for the cheese board, next time we'll try again!

Having just arrived in Alsace, dining at La Haut was my very first experience of Alsatian hospitality and provided a warm welcome. The drive up was very pleasant and I was intrigued by the idea that we would be eating at the top of a peak! The restaurant itself is set in a beautiful old chateau but with a modern but homely interior and a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The sight from our table was spectacular, with a view across Saverne and beyond. To start I was recommended to try Flammekueche, a typical Alsace dish not dissimilar to a very thin pizza but covered with creme fraiche, onions and lardons. Very light and tasty it was a perfect starter and a delicious introduction to Alsatian food. For my main dish I tried the special as recommended by our host the Black Angus steak and it proved to be a great choice. Cooked to perfection and accompanied very simply by a small salad, it was among the best steaks I've had and I would have eaten the whole thing, but the cut was very generous in size! The staff at La Haut were very welcoming and friendly and I must admit to being relieved when one of the young waiters was keen to speak in English so that he could practice his language skills!Overall, a very good welcome to Alsace and definitely recommended if you are visiting Saverne.

This lovely restaurant is located uphill in the old part of the town. Visitors eat in the vaulted cellar, but can also use an outdoor terrace. Typically Elsässer flammkuchen is paramount at the start: try it! For the mains we chose the extremes of foie gras and a vegetarian tart. Both were of impressive quality. As almost everywhere in Alsace the desserts were very delicious. Along with a bottle of wine one pays for a three course meal for two people about 100â¬. The price-quality ratio is reasonable.
