We had a great lunch here. 4 of us ate more than enough for under â¬100 between us with wine. The boards with various tasty bits on them are great. We had a Sancerre, a, Chavignol, a Norwegian and a Barbecue board and they were all very very good. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and the wine was great too. A great family lunch at a covered patio and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We were looking for someplace to go that was not just another French restaurant. This place fills the bill. They offer pizzas, burgers, pastas, etc. Also drinks on the menu like Gin & Tonic that I had not found since leaving home. Lots of locals eating here also.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon and found it underwhelming. The food is above average but the beef dish we ordered was a little tough. The wine menu is very nice though and I liked how it provided descriptions to help you narrow down what you'd like. The service was probably the part we found less appealing -- it felt like they were very understaffed. There were probably about 10-12 tables but only two servers for all of them. As a result, it was nearly impossible to flag one down to take your order or ask for anything. We probably sat for a good 25-30 min before we finally had someone take down our order. It was like they tried to avoid making eye contact with you until the end of your meal so you wouldn't request them to do anything extra. I think the service could have been so much better had they had another 1-2 servers on hand to accommodate for the restaurant patrons. At least the chocolate dessert in the prix fixe menu was pretty good. Location is excellent as it's right in the town square of Sancerre.

The gourmet restaurant was really quiet on a Sunday night in September. We were there with friends and there was only one other table occupied that night. A little weird when there are only 2 tables of people eating. But that was quickly overcome by the food. Fois gras for the 1st course and lamb for the second. Everyone enjoyed the food. Great wine list with lots of selections of local Sancerre wines. Soufflé for dessert rounded out the meal.Food is worth going back for, but would choose a more lively night.Great location at the bottom of the Month Damnes vineyards.

We traveled to Chavignol to visit Domaine Deleporte at 5 PM for a tour and wine tasting. An excellent visit and some first class wines. Afterward we felt like having something to eat and another couple visiting the domaine suggested a restaurant just up the street. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed that night but the associated bistro was to open at 7. We sampled more local wine at the bar and then decided it was getting too late to wait further. On our way back we passed a small, unobtrusive bistro that was open and decided to check it out. Ambiance? A small dining area, bare wooden tables and a menu on a chalk board! We decided to take a chance...and what a surprise. Our meal included salmon salad, onglet de veau (veal hanger steak) with fries, bavette (flank steak) with salad, and creme brulee.....all prepared in a tiny kitchen at the back. Regional cooking at its best. Augmented with more local wines and cheeses, dinner was a delight. Lesson learned...looks can be deceiving.

Most of the ingredients are local products. The chef has a high reputation of making home made terrines and many other local specialties.Interesting wine menu wich offers a range of local Sancerre wines both in red and white, all at the same price. There is possibility for outdoor seating. The setting is near the very center of Sancerre, almost on top of the hill.

We travel to Sancerre at least once, usually twice, a year, and a trip to this restaurant (ideally, more than one) is always a highlight for me. The staff are immensely welcoming and friendly. (I honestly do not recognise the stories from people saying they are not - I am sorry to hear them, but in all the years I have gone it has never been my experience.) The food is very good - not earthshattering, but delicious, and my daughter would go for the gougeres alone. It is very seasonal, and local, and delicious. The wine list is excellent, and very reasonably priced. It is essential to book in summer, as they can sometimes get full (and there is only ever one seating); there is more flexibility in the winter, but even then it is best to book.

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic. We were lucky to find it, and to get in without a booking! Situated in the centre of the town, itâs aged charm is the first thing you notice. Everything was done in a charming and professional manner and we were made to feel extremely welcome and weâre jot rushed, even though it was a busy lunch time at the height of the summer season. The food was amazing! You could order from a 3 or 4 course menu or the a la Carte. They served lots of little dishes that were complimentary which added to the meal. The veal was so delicious and tender and beautifully presented. The fish was brought to the table and the waiter expertly filleted it on a little side table as we watched. Then he served it in the plate.....it was a very big portion and was simply mouthwatering. This is a top class restaurant and I recommend it to anyone visiting this town or the surrounding area. You would be well advised to book in advance. Congratulations on a stunning restaurant and an incredible dining experience.

We booked in on the off-chance to stay two nights in the area and, arriving in the late afternoon, we decided to eat in the restaurant. We could not have made a wiser choice as the cuisine was superb and the service was very professional. We booked immediately to eat on our second night too and were not disappointed by the choice available and the style and panache displayed in the cooking and presentation. We were able to talk to the Chef/Proprietor and heard about the history of the Hotel and their continued insistence on the use of local and often home grown produce. Our room for the stay was traditionally decorated, well in keeping with the age of the property. The bed was comfortable and we slept well, rising to enjoy our breakfast which again included home made produce, jams and yogurt. When we visit the area again, this will be our Hotel and Restaurant of choice.
