Where to eat European food in Plougrescant: The Best Restaurants and Bars
This is a fairly new Italian restaurant in this small town in Bourgogne. We had dinner there on a recent weekend. Overall, the experience was disappointing, but I attribute that mostly to the usual difficulties in developing a rhythm and cohesive team at a new establishment. The menu is very limited. It appears to be lasagne or a formule. Perhaps that will expand as the restaurant gets its act together. We ordered the formule, which consisted of a small amuse bouche, an entrée (appetizer) a plat (main dish -- ours was gnocchi in a tomato sauce) and dessert, which we did not stay for as described below. We had a bottle of inexpensive Italian wine (Valpolicella, if I recall), which was good. The server was friendly but clearly overworked, especially as more tables were occupied during the evening. The amuse bouche and appetizer were fine. But the problem started showing up as the night dragged on. We were the third party in the restaurant on the evening we visited, and shortly after we finished our entrée one of the two earlier parties finished their meal, paid, and left. Their table, laden with dirty dishes, half-eaten food, and empty wine glasses, stayed as it was until we left over 90 minutes later. The server was too overworked to clear it. It was unappetizing to look at, to say the least. But the real problem came with the plat. It was a simple plat: gnocchi and tomato sauce. That it took over an hour to be served after the entrée indicates to me that there was some major problem in the kitchen. At one point, I saw one of the employees nervously peeking out of the kitchen in the rear of the restaurant at the number of guests, all waiting on their meals. When at long last it came, it was underwhelming. The gnocchi were good. Clearly made in the house, they were soft little pillows of potatoey goodness. But the sauce was as bland as it could be. No garlic flavor, no herbs, no olive oil. It literally tasted as if it were tomato sauce out of a container heated up and seasoned with salt. I suspect the problem was that the sauce they had intended to serve was ruined for some reason, and the long wait for the plat occurred because the kitchen staff panicked, calmed themselves down, tried to think of what they could do to replace it, and came up with a very bland but expedient, at long last, substitute. We ate under the penetrating gazes of some of the other famished guests who still were waiting for their dinners, and decided to pay and leave without waiting even longer for dessert. I think our total time here was about 2 hours 30 minutes, almost all of it waiting and waiting and waiting (think here of the beginning monologue to the film Casablanca). If this were an established business and this kind of thing happened, I would give it one dot as a rating. But because this restaurant is just starting up and clearly has some kinks to work out, I'll give it three for now. I look forward to another visit, perhaps in a few months, and I hope to see substantial improvement. The town needs a decent Italian restaurant to supplement the several places serving pizza, and to provide an alternative to the profoundly mediocre Stromboli, and I hope Trattoria Paola can grow into such a place.

This restaurant is just by the river with a view of the church in Paray-le-Monial. There is seating inside or outside by the river. The lady who served us said she only spoke a little English and we had a laugh about this and managed on broken French/English. I chose the set menu- 4 courses though I did skip the cheese course. My partner had 2 courses, a starter and a main. All the food was nicely presented and tasted very good. My only feedback would be it was a little over priced but we did not have time to compare with other restaurants in this town as only there for one night.

We went there early on a sunday and were greeted with the warmest smiles. Easy to sense the personal investments made into this place. Staff were helpful and enthusiastic and the food was delicious. We had children with us and they were welcomed too. We had the duck and it was perfect. wish we stayed longer to relax in the fabulous seating area that they had created. (ps...the restaurant is in such a lovely area we had a lovely walk afterwards too.)Thank you for your feedback! We were glad to receive you in our restaurant and are happy to read that you enjoyed your meal. We'll be happy to welcome you again for your next visit in Paray Le Monial! The team "La Taverne"

We had our dinner reserved in this restaurant by the tour operator. They ordered breaded fish and rice for our group. At first, the bread served to us with liver pate was good for a starter. I love bread so I asked for seconds. But when the fried fish meal was served to us, I was so disappointed by the way the rice was cooked. It was still crunchy and undercooked. Almost all of us in the group didn't eat the rice because of the fear of having gas pains afterwards. So I just feasted with the fish and bread. We had an extra order of steak and it was good.

The main restaurant was renovated for its centenary and has retained an old-time charm and atmosphere of bygone days. Air-conditioning is installed in the two dining rooms, one of which is specially reserved for groups
We really enjoyed our meal here. The food is very good as are the wines; the dining room is a small, high ceilinged and quite lovely place to enjoy a meal and the value for money was excellent. The only thing letting the whole lot down was a new waiter, hopelessly under trained by his employer. Having our order taken took an aeon, Aperitifs arrived only just before entrees, bread arrived with mains so missed out on being enjoyed with our soup and the entire service was sloppy and painful to watch! This was not our new waiters fault but rather the fault of an employer that puts an inexperienced staff member on the front line with inadequate training & supervision. But despite this, it was still a very enjoyable evening.

The apostrophe By Frédéric Garrivier Created in 2009 by Frédéric and his wife Catherine. When we discovered the town of Paray the monial, to settle in the Charolais was as obvious: At the junction of our roots, Macon and Roanne. After our gastronomic jour
First, a good advice: book ahead because this restaurant is not number one in Paray le Monial for no reasons... Especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. So yes, the menu is quite inventive, proposing local products in an original tasty way. The lamb in a brick sort of roll was to die for. The cannelloni of snails very interesting and full of flavours. As for the desert, you have to order them at the beginning which is of good omens. The all experience was really worth it!Of course the wine is a bit pricy as it can be in a restaurant of such quality, especially when my husband and I have opposite preferences and ordered half a bottle of red and half of white. Both were gorgeous.Friendly attentive but discreet service.
