I was invited to a business dinner on June 23, 2015 at restaurant Meerdael in Blanden, seven km from Leuven. The facade of this lovely country cottage is partially covered with greenery but the interior (with an old staircase and a beamed ceiling) has been recently renovated in a modern design style. The dining room is elegant and cosy, there is an attic above the staircase with a table for two. Chef Jean-Marc Cosyns works the kitchen and his wife Ann attends the dining room gracefully and efficiently. They have a grade of 13/20 in the Gault and Millau guide. We were a group of 11 and the service was accordingly a bit slow, especially since the restaurant (which has room for 30 people) was quite packed. But we were nevertheless allowed to pick our courses à la carte.I started with a gin tonic (others had champagne or beer). Several amuse-bouches were served including a nice mousse of cauliflower and a small beef tartar with two Belgian frites. As a first course I had a goose foie gras "au torchon" (homemade) with a toasted brioche that was scrumptious (several guests had the "asperges à la flamande" that are in season and were very good), followed by a "croustillant" of sweetbreads with asparagus, beans and sauce mousseline, very delicious. Several guests had seafood that was very well prepared. I skipped dessert but what my colleagues had looked very good. We had St Aubin white wine and Gigondas red wine which everyone appreciated. They have a 5-course menu for 60 euros, 90 with matching wines. All in all, classical French/Belgian food exquisitely prepared with friendly and efficient service. I found the background music a bit irritating but it was not loud. Definitely an address to remember.

We were doing a golf tour around Flanders with some tour operators and international journalists and finished our trip in Leuven. A vibrant student city we headed for Julia & Elias and the food was outstanding. The service was impeccable, the menu varied and the food exquisite. For sure an address to take note of.

Rustig
Leuven has seen a few new and very good restaurants come on the dining scene lately, but Taste really stands out. Limited choice of dishes, but it guarantees freshness and super quality; moreover, some flexibility is allowed if some dish does not really appeal. The chef and his wife really go out of their way to make this a memorable experience, and the sommelier offers an excellent choice (and knowledge) of wines. We had quite a few lunches since they opened and were pleasantly surprised on each occasion.Thank you for the lovely review! Hope to see you again soon.

This roomy restaurant with a delightful garden section set in the academic suburb of Heverlee, offers a traditional Belgian selection of meals. It is slightly annoying that if one person at the table takes the set menu, then the whole table must do so. It is probably related to their "unlimited-wine-with-the-menu" policy. For a set menu, the waiting time between dishes was too long, and the price too high for the kinds of dishes in that menu (an example: a crab croquette entree + a duck breast main + ice cream dessert for about 50 Euros). This is not Michelin star dining but well prepared home food.

Fine-food restaurant in Leuven, hospitality & quality stands central, in a non-rigid yet refined framework. During the summer months we welcome you in our city garden, which is nicely surrounded by the rhythm of the city!
We had a really nice dinner at Zarza! For students (or anyone under 30) who want to experience fantastic cuisine, they provide a Young Foodies menu. The courses were great, and the wines that went with them were fantastic. We have been here twice now and they do not disappoint!

This restaurant offers excellent food from a limited menu of really interesting dishes cooked to perfection. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. There was a good choice of good quality wines at reasonable prices. A really pleasant place to have a leisurely meal

We had the 5 course menu which was delicious. Chef did a great job in original combinations and presentation. Portions were quite small, but enough in the end. Service was really open and friendly, but sometimes in my opinion displayed some too direct/close behaviour/communication for this type of establishment. Overall recommended, but preferably in winter as they had no terrace (a petty in their green location). Please note their parking is limited to around 8 cars, so try to carpool if possible.Thank you very much for your fantastic review. We have a terrace for +-35 people but it is not all-ways open ......parking space is limited for 12 cars, but there is a public parking next to us for +-60 cars Hope to see you again The Bib team

Carrying a Michelin star, one expects high quality dishes and impeccable service. Both are present here but the environment is very sterile and modern, too much so for my liking. Food however and service are great, I just miss the personal touch.

After arriving 30 mins late for our reservation (so embarrassing) we were greeted with friendly faces and ushered into a beautiful, light-filled room overlooking the lake. No intolerant, po-faced wait staff here :) We had made a reservation an hour before and had not notified the kitchen that we were difficult eaters. We fully expected to dine on the set menu without any changes but when asked about any dietary restrictions, I did inform them that if at all possible, I would prefer to eat fish and not meat and that my husband did not eat fish and cheese. Instead of being frog-marched out of the restaurant we were delighted with our meals, which were ALL modified according to our individual requirements. The salmon I had was completely delightful and melted in the mouth. We were charmed by the easy-going, friendly staff, the food, the wines and the lovely scenery.

We had a table on the nice shady terrace. Food was marvelous, especially the langoustines, the tarte tatin and the succulent pigeon. Desserts are a must. Correct 1star level. Why not a perfect score: time in between the different courses was really long. Beautiful and affordable winelist. We had a perfect Domus Aurea.
