Reviews on French food in Odense, Funen and Islands, Denmark. The quirky, millennium-old capital of Fyn (or Funen), Odense is populated by street corner sculptures of trolls and monster-footed benches. Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace is crammed with fairytale-related attractions. A plethora of castles awaits in the surrounding countryside, including the 1554 Egeskov Castle with its dramatic moat, 18 miles away. Bike or walk to visit manatees at the zoo, open-air museums, the impressive cathedral, the art cinema and bustling cafés, or see the town by riverboat.

Welcome to RICETERIA - your funky café and RICE store combo... Healthy and homemade food. Great gifts, events & coffee!
What a great spot! Service was so friendly and attentive. The shop itself is great, if you like buying accessories and useful things you're going to take a few of them home. The food (salad, sandwich and sweets) we had was very delicious too. The only less positive comment is that being a store that values and cares for the makers of their products so much, they should consider changing their coffee brand (Nespresso). Other than that, this is a "to go place" when in Odense.

Restaurant in the center of Odense, in the cozy Vintapperstraede. Focus on substainability and locally sourced products.
My girlfriend and I had the 5 course with wine menu, and honestly this was one of best experiences I ever had in Odense. Service was excellent and down to earth, the food incredible and creative - and the wine carefully picked and very different. A sublime trest for the senses.

Bacchus' characteristic is Stephane's interpretation of classic French cuisine based on taste, craftsmanship and pride in home-made products. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we serve our monthly menu. Every Monday is Classic Monday with a 3 course
Bacchus is fantastic; It is elegant, excellent, efficient, and expensive. The food is imaginative, varied and delicious. I took the 4-course menu, which comes with unlimited (and quality)wine. The place was run in an efficient, almost "Swiss-watch" manner by two servers and the maître d'. My wine glass was never allowed to be empty. I managed to get a table with out a reservation -- it was a week night, at 19h00.I'd go back to Bacchus in a flash. It was just great. Usually when I dine alone, I read during the meal; this time I wanted to concentrate fully on the food.

Don't expect a two course meal and half a bottle of wine for any less than at least 100 Euro a head. Whilst most of the food was decent enough, portions are dolls-house tiny... my 'starter' of lobster carpaccio could have neatly fitted onto a tablespoon, my 'main course' of pigeon was scaled at what other decent restaurants would have properly called a starter. There were two male waiting staff fussing over only seven customers all evening. One waiter's greatest pleasure was to laboriously list every ingredient in every dish brought to the table, and when we finished our bottle of San Pellegrino water, to provide us with another (opened) without even asking us if we wanted it (another 7 Euro, thank you very much!). Some may find this a charming attention to detail, but I found it rather rude and presumptuous (one wonders if he'd done the same with the 50 Euro bottle of wine?). The other waiter clearly didn't appreciate us being in his oh-so-exclusive restaurant at all, and his nose stayed high in the air the whole time, giving us the the most grudging of haughty acknowledgements when we left.I left feeling somewhat 'conned' and resentful, still hungry, and much the poorer. I will not be back.

Café Skt Gertrud is named after Saint Gertrud, Saint Gertrud lived between 625-659 at a convent in Nivelles, she was known for her compasion and sympathy for the poor, sick and travelling. In Odense in the middle of the 1400 a small chapel by "Fisketorvet
We just finished lunch. They erred the coffee order, the amount of cheese was four times the amount needed to enjoy the bread served with it, and for an alcohol-free meal, it was typically high priced for Denmark.HOWEVER, the courtesy with WHICH everything was done was delightfully uncommon to find in Odense, or almost anywhere in Denmark.Dear Yodel and Clemmie,Thank you for your honest comments about your visit to Café Skt Gertrud.I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the service.I cannot remember any other guests saying there is not enough bread with the cheese but maybe thats because they have just asked and been served more bread on the day. We hope to see you back at Gertruds another day.Yours SincerelyMark

This restaurant is a bit more hyped than deserved. Very french brasserie style interior with lots of different style chairs etc. Friendly service but not overly attentive. Good food but not prepared with the expertise we expected. Some of the dishes very quite over salted. But it is cheap so I guess you should not expect high end quality. It is also quite rare that it happens.

Very nice atmosphere at this place, and super friendly service. Brunch was tasty, but for 169DKK pretty pricey, and honestly there could've been more on the platter. Would definitely go again & try something else.Dear Henrik_moThank you for your review and for sharing your experience at Tripadvisor. Please let us know, if you need a little more on your plate, the next time you visit us. It's important for us, that you are full, when you buy a whole meal. We look forward to see you again, and can definitely recommend you to try our evening menu. Best regardsTeam Gastroteket

This was booked by our Danish family who've been here a couple of times before. Very popular, so we'd booked a table in advance. We were seated straight away and bread, butter and water were immediately served to us. We all opted for the three course set menu - salted cod with tarragon and fennel followed by roast veal and finished off with chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream served with pickled blackcurrants. The choices for this meal were: three courses for DK300 (about £40), three courses plus matching wine for DK400 (about £53) or for DK600 you also get fois gras with the main course, petit fours at the end and some other bits and pieces.Three of us opted for the matching wines, while our designated driver stuck to a single beer. They do offer a half-serving of wines, but they're so generous with the wine that it's hard to be sure exactly how much you're drinking!Well, it was all superb. Amazing flavours, beautifully cooked and presented and very professionally served. Our waiter, Eric, spoke perfect English with a strong American accent - I asked if he'd lived in the States - turns out he was born there and moved to Denmark as a child! The other staff also spoke good English and the menus are available in English as well as Danish.Lovely convivial atmosphere, quiet enough to be able to have a conversation but enough background noise and the tables far enough apart that you don't feel anyone can eavesdrop. We hope to be back soon.
