A nice local family restaurant serving traditional regional dishes.A wide range of fixed menu deals, all with a heavy Perigueux influence. So 'Canard' is king in this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the 'assiette de canard IGP' - which consisted of local duck cooked in a variety of ways. The food was well cooked and simply presented.A good range of the local Percharmant was on offer, but we opted for a 'Pichet de Perchament' - a jug of the house wine, and we very satisfied with the quality. The facilities are fairly basic.Overall a popular choice with the family and at a good price.

We had looked at TA the evening before we visited Bergerac & decided this was the place for lunch. We had a boat trip on the river which finished at just after 1.00pm and walked up from the river only to be told that lunch was finished when we arrived at 13.25 !! Unthinkable of course in the U.K. when you would always be fine up to 2.00 pm and often beyond but I assume they must be doing very well if they can afford to turn folks away when itâs only mid way through lunchtime (most of the shops donât reopen until 3.00pm) and they have vacant tables.

The dancer and I were split on the actual choice of this restaurant, she really wanted Moules et Frittes and I'd read the reviews for D'un Terroir a l'Autre and was keen to try. Bergerac is 135km from the coast I pointed out.....Anyway, ignoring the health shop entrance which is undermines the first impressions of this food haven, the Amuse Bouche of a tasty chilled Gazpacho in a shot glass soon reassured us.A main course of fragrant chicken Momo dumplings with a balanced tomato sauce and salad, plus a pork chuleton with a tasty piquant orange & chocolate sauce displayed a very talented and delicate touch from this Nepalese chef. A really pleasant surprise in a tranquil terraced garden haven with trickling pond, lush vegetation complete with Nepalese prayer flags.Wine list offered local Rose's & whites and both local & Bordeaux reds. Deserts included some well made Pantua semolina balls in a light fruit syrup and some rocking chocolate profiteroles.Clever and well made stuff & not over-priced for the quality on offer. Charming French proprietor front of house too.

We were meeting friends for lunch whilst on holiday and they chose this restaurant as our midway meeting point so it was a little pot luck that we got somewhere good. Wow! what a choice they made. This is an excellent restaurant, very welcoming and friendly staff and a gorgeous view over the river of the old town of Bergerac. The menu isn't large but the food was all superb - all four of us thought our meals were delicious. The dishes have been well thought out, full of flavours and ingredients that compliment each other.I understand this is a relatively new business which makes our experience all the more impressive. We'll definitely be back on a future visit!

Fancied trying the fish and chips we werenât disappointed cooked to perfection, not generally a mushy pea fan but the split pea purée was yummy. Even white bread to make perfect chip butties. Very welcoming hosts we will definitely return on a regular basis, can highly recommend. Great value for money 3 course fish and chip menu on Fridays well worth 18 euros washed down with the local village rose. Thank you Michèle and Michel.

Really pleased with this restaurant. Beautiful intimate setting.Melanie, as front of house, was welcoming and offered a calm, unhurried approach to service. She also helped me practice my French speaking, which I duly massacred. Courses were presented at a pace where we didn't feel rushed and were given amuse bouche and had some great haznut wine before we started. The food itself was superb and was presented really, really well. Simple ingredients were elevated to a high standard. The gnocchi dish in particular was a big surprise. Finally, the price was very reasonable especially given that we had an amazing evening chatting to each other for more than two hours. I felt more like a guest than a customer, which is what skilled hospitality is about.Would go again.6/5

We stayed for two nights and dined for one only because the are not open on Sunday night and we were still too full from breakfast to attempt the Sunday lunch!! The food is absolutely fantastic and at a very reasonable price. Service was very good and relaxed - not rushed. This is the second time we have dined here and both times the menu was top notch and beautifully presented and served. We will be back for sure. The room was perfectly fine and very comfortable. I think the locals are very lucky to have this on their doorstep.Dear Chris and Mike, We were very enjoy to welcoming you last week at the Bastide Capraise. We followed a recommendation of the owner of the property we rented and had an outstanding meal in a very special setting. A beautiful, tiny village is home to this excellent family run restaurant. The quality of the food is wonderful (especially the soup), portions are large and the service is very friendly. We had a great evening and would recommend this to anyone looking for a great meal in a very special setting.

The restaurant Les Merles serve the contemporary version of the traditional Perigord cuisine and updated the regional dishes with modern cooking techniques. The chef de cuisine Bas Holten selects the best local, seasonal and fresh ingredients for his menu
During our trip in Dordogne, we enjoyed the French cuisine in 4 different places, Saint Emilion, Eymet, Perigueux and here. Unfortunately, this restaurant was the only one who did not meet our expectations. The service was poor (actualy they ignored us the whole evening), the food had no taste, even the plates were nice looking, the bill was everage. All of us, 6 persons on table, choosing 3 different menus of 3 and 3 different menus of 5 plates, agreed that we will not come again!Dear SorinSn,We thank you for taking the time to tell us how you feel about your dining experience. On behalf of the entire team of Chateau les Merles, I sincerely apologize that our restaurant did not meet your expectations. I am surprised by your comment about the service which doesn't reflect our usual standards. Indeed, It is a point of honour to make you spend a special moment with us and we are sorry that did not occur. Our restaurant serves innovative dishes with local products and we regret that you did not like them. Our menu changes every season and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again to make you rediscover our establishment.Sincerely, Sibylle PoireaultGuest Relations

At the gateway of Bergerac, the Chartreuse du Bignac restaurant welcomes you to enjoy gourmet moments in a bright, cheerful atmosphere. A dining room decorated in soft shades, facing the park and a lovely terrace from which you can gaze at the sunset over
Our bike group dined one evening at La Restaurant du Bignac. Not only was the meal a gastronomic delight, each dish was a work of art. Earlier in the afternoon the chef had conducted a cooking clinic, teaching us how to smoke a duck breast using dried hay as the fuel. This chef and his assistant are very talented. LRB is a bit out of the way, yet easily worth the visit. Clearly reservations are required as our group of 16 occupied the majority of the ding room. Should you decide to dine at Bignac, make a reservation at the inn and spend the night as the inn. The whole experience is a real treat.
