Tripadvisor's question: have you been to La Barakka? I'd feel ashame if I should not have been there, in my home town! The place is easy to find: it is opposite the church, next to the library, 50 meters from the cultural center, at walking distance from the railwaystation. I wrote "church" but I wanted to say "carillon"...The restaurant of La Barakka calls itself "Het Zalig niets doen" which means: "Lovely doing nothing". Most important thing is drinking your coffee/eating your lunch or dinner and listening to the carillon of the church every 15 minutes.!You can go to La Barakka every hour of the day: even for just a coffee with a piece of cake... or a daily set luch for ⬠12,00 only! or for their monthly dinner (5 courses, aperitif, wine and coffee incl) Food is more than ok, the cook finished his study at the famous Hotelschool at Koksijde.A special word about the concerts at the carrillon: extremely very famous in July and August; every Wednesday..at 8 pm. This year(2012) they started with "Valse opus 64 from Chopin" and they end the last Wednesday of August with "Smoke gets in your eyes"; "The girl of Epanema"; "Somewhere over the rainbow"... On the carrillon for free? Yes, on the carrillon for free!At La Barakka you only pay for the food/drinks: the magic of sitting there is for free....

Very, extremely slow service combined with highly priced average quality food! Staff are not very friendly and seem overstretched and overstressed all the time.

We've dined at Vienna with friends from Lokeren several times while visiting Belgium and each time the food has been delicious. The dining room's relaxed ambiance is inviting. Very easy to have good conversation while dining - not too loud, perhaps because of the high ceilings. The sole is always excellent and I ordered a pasta with mushrooms this time and loved it. Presentation of food is thoughtful and portions are generous. The chef seems to make a point to come out into the dining room toward the end of service to visit local friends and greet those who are still around from the last service. Nice tough, nice guy, very good food!

At Fridays the restaurant offers a very special menu atâ¬78 (apero, wine and coffee included)The "amuses bouche" and the dessert is almost the same for several months or even years but the other dishes are alvast very delicious, according to the season. You won't be disappointed when you choose this menu. Value for money.
