Restaurants in La Rochefoucauld

A popular bar and restaurant in a very popular tourist town. Lunchtimes are normally busy, and the service and food are ok, but noyhing really special. The place is|handy and inexpensive, not really for special occasions, but almost always open.
Superbe découverte, cadre qui nous rappelle les pâtisseries new-yorkaise.... Milk Shake parfait, et grand choix de macaron mais Cup Cake un peu petits...Choix de boisson un peu limité Déco au top et accueil parfait

This is a lovely cafe/restaurant, under the chateau walls and at the side of the river, very pleasant indeed. The menu is small with two specials of the day, mainly salads, desserts to die for and a variety of soft drinks, alcohol and coffees. There were 10 of us and the staff were very accommodating, pushing tables together. Each dish that was ordered was large and of excellent quality. I had quiche which was served with salad, it was hot and delicious (ham, olives and cheese). Others had the Salad Cafe Gourmonde which was a large salad topped with magret, one person had a special with smoked salmon and pineapple, excellent. The service was good and one of the waiters spoke English which made the visit easier for those of us who haven't yet fully mastered the French language!

We only wanted a coffee and didn't want to take up space in a restaurant at lunchtime so we looked for a coffe bar and were lucky enough to stumble upon this place, which appeared to be the only option (which was open). It has a couple of outside seats and more inside and a small terrace at the rear.It is like a little old coffe/tea shop in England, selling coffees and teas by the 100g but also serving up really good coffee. It was full of locals which gave it a really good ambience.Nice people, good coffee, not dear

On my first visit, at lunchtime, I chose a savoury gaufre (delicious) from the menu of hot dishes. Recently I returned with a friend for mid-morning coffee and cake. From a good selection that included financiers, fruit tarts and individually prepared fruit crumbles, we both plumped for the chocolate cake. It was an excellent choice -- generous portions, richly chocolatey, but very light. There is a wide selection of hot and cold drinks and ice-creams. Outside, at the front, there is a decked terrace area with parasols; inside, the decor is enhanced by lovely antique furniture and accessories, most of which are for sale. There is a free public car park just along the street. This is a great place for a coffee, a snack, or a light meal.

Restaurant opened on 14 June, with magnificent view on the Chateau of La Rochefoucauld. It is a beautiful location - you can eat either on the terrace or inside the restaurant which is under a glass veranda. We opted for truites fumées, but they had run out of them so were given a mixed salad, then we had pork in cider. It did look nice and sauce was tasty, but pork was definitely far from tender. Then there was a mix up with the sweet - only one was ordered, but two were served. Now the sweet was a sort of Genoa cake with ice cream and a few drops of strawberry flavoured cream- clearly not to be served again as it was Dry and totally Uninspiring at the end of a meal. Service was very good and they were most apologetic about the mix up and adjusted the bill accordingly.

Four of us went to yet another lunch and our favorite steak & chips restaurant. They do many other things, including chicken and pizzas but it is the steaks for which they are rightfully famous. Steph's chips are cooked in duck fat and turned in garlic and parsley. To die for. It is not cheap here, a fillet steak and chips is 30 euros but the house wine in a carafe of 1/2 litre is only 8.50 euros. Desserts are enormous. If you are old enough to remember a Knickerbocker glory you will get the right idea!Word or warning. They will refuse to cook a steak more well done than medium.A firm favourite of ours at least once a year. It is worth a 45 minutes drive for us to get there.Toute lâéquipe de Chez Steph vous remercie pour votre agréable commentaire !à l'année prochaine alors !Amitiés gourmandes!

A lovely little creperie serving super savoury galettes and wonderful sweet crepes. Nice surroundings and Francoise is a lovely friendly lady who makes her clients very welcome. They get busy so book to avoid disappointment.
