A limited menu, certainly nothing "French" about it. The pre printed colourful menus had nothing at all to excite the palate but there was a daily specials board that offered some more exciting dishes the skate wings in particular were very good considering their distance from the sea. I thought the cheese board on offer was a bit dismal with a hard (cheddar?) a small piece of goat and a similarly small piece of Chaume being the entire selection and prohibitively priced. But once you have booked in they are outside of the town proper and have adaptive audience to exploit.

Didn't even get the chance to try the food because of the terrible service! Restaurant was half full (inside and on the outside seating area), sat down at a table and took 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged by the cook/waitress. We then had to ask for the menu ourselves, instead of being handed one and at this point we had still not been offered a drink. Stayed for another 15/20 minutes and the drink/food order had still not been taken. At this point, with many other tables still yet to be served we left. The food may be good but the restaurant is VERY understaffed, one woman was cooking/serving for 10+ tables at once.

Beef is the star attraction here. This is a chain that is very popular throughout France. It is atypical in that you can easily have a good meal in less than 2 hours as they are not fussy if you only want one course. There are certainly many courses to choose from so a 3 or 4 course meal is always possible. I had a very large (double) burger and I had a choice of how well it was cooked. This is France so don't expect anything beyond medium well. The beef was fresh and tender. One of the party had a tartar which he greatly enjoyed. The fries were a bit "crusty" and slightly overdone but still fairly tasty.Wine selection was limited. The beer selection was better.Reasonably fast service as there were several waitresses in constant motion.

Review is for hotel/restaurant. Elegant, small hotel-restaurant in the heart of Issoudun, with some covered parking in their âcourtyardâ. We made our reservations on their web-site. We were warmly welcomed, and our room was very elegant, comfortable and well-appointed. Their restaurant has limited seating, so it would be good to reserve a table if you plan to eat there. We had their 3-course menu and enjoyed it. The soupe du jour was an interesting take on gazpacho â it tasted like watermelon, instead of the spicy tomato based soup were accustomed to in the US. My wife had the charcuterie platter, which was both generous and tasty. Our mains were almond crusted trout with potatoes, mushrooms, and a creative foamy carrot mouse â quite good. In lieu of dessert, for a 4e supplement, my wife had the fromage â 4 very small slices of local cheese. For dessert I had their version of tarte tatin, which I enjoyed. Our meal went well with an affordable 2016 Reynaudat Reuilly Les Lignes. Their dining room was somewhat rustic, but elegant, with elegant stemware, as well. Service was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was nicely done, as well. We highly recommend the hotel as a base for exploring the Loire or as a pleasant stop en route from Provence to Brittany.

In a Balzacian atmosphere, in the heart of le Berry, Isabelle and Jean-Jacques welcome you to their restaurant which offers cuisine using local flavours in a creative way.
This is probably our 4th visit to La Cognette. We were staying about 15 kilometres from Issoudun, so another opportunity to visit or favourite restaurant in the centre of France. As usual, it was a lovely experience â the service, the environment, and of course the food. This time I particularly enjoyed the trilogy of veal. And we got to say hello to the house cat!
