Pricy, a bit depressing atmosphere, but good !Being in Clermont-Ferrand I wanted to try one of the âstarredâ restaurants.Having tried some others before, I went for a new one : Apicius. The website was very nice.First I realized it was closed on weekends. This is bad. Then I managed to go on a Monday. The atmosphere is rather depressing. It was only elderly people, not very crowded, no music and the atmosphere even if topped by some red sofas is cold. The service is much average, not worth as starred restaurant. The food is creative (but not too much) and real good. The wine list is not very good and too pricy for what it is.Overall a good experience thanks to the very innovative and good food.I would still recommend the place if you are not depressed and not on your own and rather numerous to create the atmosphere yourselves.

This is the kind of review I probably shouldn't write as ... i don't want to find myself unable to book a table here! The food is always excellent, changes every day ... there is a fine wine collection and the very genial Claude who owns this restaurant always greets his customers with kindness and appreciation. Julien the waiter and sommelier is excellent too and speaks English. If you are looking for a superb French bistrot experience, then this is it.

We covered quite a lot of the menu and we were impressed about the delicious taste and the out of the ordinary arrangements for every single dish. Absolutely everything we ate was at high standards. Even though the portions are little you will be full because they offer several menus including appetizers. The prices for that evening were high (starting at 52 euro menu for me and ~63 euro for my fiance) but we didnt regret it at all on any moment. The quality, serving and experience worth all the money.

I like this area. The restaurant seemed pretty good. We had a preset menu and I chose the duck breast. It was very good but served with no accompaniment. I think that most of the dishes were good. I would try the restaurant again.

Itâs easy to see why this place gets nothing but 5 or 4 star reviews. The welcome is warm, the cooking inventive, the prices moderate, the wine list interesting⦠I could find nothing to fault and a host of reasons to return as soon as possible.

We had one night in Clermont-Ferrand and chanced upon this restaurant - a lucky chance! We were attracted in because She Who Must Be Obeyed is a vegetarian (actually pescetarian but let's not get hung up) and the menu promised a plat du jour végétarien, which is helpful in France. I'm properly carnivorous so easier to please. The restaurant is tiny, there were a couple of groups of 6 or more already in and a couple of tables for 2 available - we were seated at one of those. The place is modern, and I suspect trendy, but I'm of an age where I'm not sure what trendy is, and certainly not French trendy. The staff were young, (30 something) at any rate, as were most of the customers. The waiter didn't seem to have any English and my French is not great but we got by. He was very pleasant. I had a vegetable risotto, a millefous of aubergine and beef and a chocolate fondant with a cherry sorbet, SWMBO had a starter of cold soup which we don't know the name of, a risotto like my starter (she said the rice was cheesey - I'd have said creamy but what do I know?) and something which I translated as strawberry soup - it was like a liquidised intense strawberry delicious something, she tells me. It was all delicious - my pudding was gorgeous, proper tasty as I informed the waiter - not that he knew what I was on about! The bill, with beer, wine and a coffee, came to â¬60 and some change. Money well spent. We would certainly return.
