Vigevano (Italian pronunciation: [viˈdʒɛːvano] or [viˈdʒeːvano]; Western Lombard: Avgevan) is a town and comune in the province of Pavia, Lombardy in northern Italy. A historic art town, it is also renowned for shoemaking and is one of the main centres of Lomellina, a rice-growing agricultural district. Vigevano received the honorary title of city with a decree of Duke Francis II Sforza on 2 February 1532. It is famed for its beautiful Renaissance "Piazza Ducale" in the centre of the town.

Beautiful and historical and always the social center. There is always something going on there. There was a car show there when we were there. All kinds of restaurants from high end to snacks and just coffee, even fast food. And surrounding the Ducale are streets filled with shops and even more great restaurants.

This is in walking distance from The Last Supper, I spent my time here as I waited for my entry. The grounds are beautiful and there are a number of museums & displays throughout and many have nothing to do with the castle itself or the family. There is a nominal fee for a guided audio tour of the grounds and it was worth it, for me. The entrance fee gives you access to a number of museums Egyptian, Swords, Musical instruments, Ceramics ... choose the subjects that appeals to you because you may not get through them all. There is a nice little cafe to eat on the grounds and the prices are affordable. There are beautiful gardens and a number of castle cats that roam around.
