As a beachside retreat, Tybee Island brings together old and new – clapboard cottages and Bermuda- precisely that soft blend of natural marshes and Atlantic shoreline, modest history and seaside playground that makes Tybee a celebrated family vacation destination. At the south end of the island, the pier and pavilion stretches into the Atlantic, tempting people watchers and fishermen intent on capturing the ‘fish story’ catch of the day. And the authentically refurbished lighthouse and five-acre grounds and outbuildings remind us of her role in guiding mariners to the Savannah River for nearly 300 years. We go to Tybee for the beach. It is beautiful, not too crowded, even during spring break, and the water is warm. We were there in March. The locals say that it is cold, but for California refugees, it is warm (63 degrees). The air temp was a bit cool for swimming, though (68 degrees). The only drawback: parking is tight, and you may have to pay to park, unless you want to walk a bit.

We stayed in a condo with our family. We did not have to worry at all about social distancing because the beach was nearly empty every day. It is a nice beach to walk and there is always something to see.

We were going on the Captain Mike's Dolphin tour and it leaves out of Laraetto Creek. There were dolphins swimming in the creek and the views over the river were amazing! It was a really nice trip through the area, past the Cockspur lighthouse and North beach. The smell of salt air and the views up and down the river made the trip totally worth it!

TS CHU's has been here for a long time and anytime I have been to Tybee over the years, we always visit CHU's. Great store with many things to see and buy and browse. My children loved this store as much as I did when I was their age. We always liked going in here as part of our Tybee Vacations over the years. Staff are usually friendly and helpful. Some of the prices are HIGH because it is a beach store BUT youcan find some neat things and sometimes even some things on sale, especially during different seasons.

My husband and I strolled the main street and pier before dinner. Fishing is popular and I believe no charge. The views of the surrounding islands are beautiful, and there is a large covered area with picnic tables and a few food stands.

Cute little market. It's small, but had a good array of items. It's definitely worth the trip. If your here on vacation, it's a good place to pick up some eggs and bread.
