One thing that I like about travelling in the Baltics is their love of art - whether as statues, paintings or wierd and wonderful sculptures. They can be serious or just downright fun. These little knights fall into this latter group. They are fun, entertaining and amusing. Even on a rainy day, like I had, they helped to cheer things up. And rainy days need cheering up.....

Krimulda estate is one where all buildings are maintained. The main building was a sanatorium for children with tuberculosis of bones. Nowadays there is a hostel and a possibility to have some physiotherapy procedures. A nice café is located in one of the farm buildings. There is also a winery "Cremon" in the same building. If you agree in advance, you can have some wine tasting before a possibility to buy some of them. There are nice walking passes in surroundings of Krimulda estate. You can reach Krimulda from Sigulda by bus, by cable car or walking through the nice Gauja river valley.

Lovely cave with carvings in the sandstone going back to 17th century. You're not allowed to deface the rock now but the older carvings give it a timeline. Beautiful place to be within the Gauja National Park. Location of The Legend of the Rose of Turaida (google it)

We passed by this on the way to Turaida. It is such a sight to see and I was glad to do so. In summer people wander through the park and sit and enjoy. In winter people stop to take photos.
