Top 10 Free Things to do in Saratoga Springs, New York (NY)

December 6, 2021 Margarita Chappel

Saratoga Springs is one of those special getaway spots where everything is just, well, pretty close to perfect. The city's lovely tree-lined streets and grand old Victorians, porch swings swaying and gardens brimming with colorful flora bring to mind a gentler era. World-class horse racing, renowned performing arts and natural springs spas, plus 13 golf courses, 10 museums, a historic battlefield, fabulous boutiques, antiques and restaurants mean there is something for everyone. Relax at the Lincoln Mineral Baths, window shop in town and then it's off to the races. Walk everywhere, it's that kind of place. One of the oldest tourist destinations in the United States, Saratoga offers ample accommodation choices in elegant hotels, historic bed and breakfasts or comfortable inns. The only drawback is you may never want to leave.

Yesterday was an extremely snowy day in Saratoga Springs, School was canceled, roads were messy. My daughter & I were in town for 24 hours & had previously looked up the information on the Saratoga Olive Oil Company & were excited about visiting the store. I had called the store numerous times before checking out of my hotel & had not gotten anyone to answer. We were disappointed to say the least but understood considering the winter weather. We had taken a walk on Broadway before driving home, walked by the store & Clint was walking in (the store had a closed sign up). We asked if we could come in & he was incredibly gracious & helpful. We told him we weren’t local & how much we had looked forward to shopping there. He let us in gave us a quick education on Olive Oil & exotic salts, we made our purchases as quick as possible as technically the place was closed. We bought some wonderful Christmas gifts. Thanks again Clint!!

We never drive by a farmers market when we are traveling, always good local treats and fun things to see and sample. This market was no exception. Great way to spend a hour or so, they had music and lot's of food choices. we decided to have lunch there before heading home. Got a very good pita pocket and chick pea salad from one vendor and fresh juice from another and enjoyed our lunch at one of the picnic tables, very close to the best lunch we had all weekend! also purchased a bag of jerky. Have fun!
