When we arrived to this lake, we had the pleasure of meeting a man who is living in this desolate part of desert and who has built a place to rest and a bathroom. He is also in charge to keep a good part of the road free of stones or potholes. Our guide Edgar took us there not only to admire the beauty of the Laguna but also to have a well deserved lunch time. While Edgar was preparing the lunch we had the opportunity of walking towards the lake, which was surrounded by patches of salt and snow. Since we were in winter there weren't many flamingos, but it did not matter as the beauty of the Laguna itself was enough to delight the eyes. I could not reach the edge of the lake as my 89 years old mom was with me and she was not strong enough to climb down in a safe manner. When we arrived the wind was not an issue but when we decided to head back to the resting place the wind gained strength and almost knocked us down. Luckily the worst part of the windstorm happened when we were having lunch. Once we finished, the calm had returned to this isolate and beautiful lake.

A beautiful trip through the astonishing western movie style nature around Tupiza with Puerto del Diablo and Inca Canyon. Especially on the back of a horse that knows the way better than the rider ;) Enjoy the 5-hour tour for an enhanced impression of the scene and profound experience of the ride. Don't forget sunscreen and tight pants, if available. The tours start just a short ride with public transportation out of the city. The horses were behaving very well in clean and well fed shape and equipped with quality sattles. Recommendation!

If you're in Potosi you're bound to wander through this plaza. It is quite stunning; beautiful architecture. I was lucky to wander through just prior to Christmas and the decorations were fabulous. None of the PC rubbish; full-on religious and Santa Claus decorations; wonderful to see. And while you're there make sure you visit the Case de Moneda just next to the plaza, one of the wonders of the Spanish Empire.

These are volcano rock formations lots of fun to climb and take pictures, you cannot climb the arbor de pier though for obvious reasons, bring lots of water the desert and high altitude can really dehydrate you.

Small bustling community where you transfer to overland vehicles for your exploration of the Salt Flats. The collection of old trains standing, rusting away is an awesome sobering sight. Rail cars everywhere. Indeed it can be called a Cemetery. Good one.
