While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.
Warm and welcoming staff. The owner/vintner even stopped at our table to visit even though it was a busy weekend afternoon. We loved the wines...bought a case of assorted types of wine. We were SO surprised to discover so many we liked at ONE place! We sat outside under the trees and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Tastings were ample and the $8 tasting fee was waived when we bought 3 bottles. This place is our favorite winery in the area! Not pretentious. Great wines!

Talon Winery is known for classic style, fruit-forward wines made from the finest grapes available. Our methods preserve and enhance the flavors that develop naturally in grapes grown in Western Colorado’s high desert arid climate and mineral-rich soils. Taste our wingspan trio, our flagship Red, White, and Rosé blends; then move across the hall to taste the delectable fruit wines of sister winery St. Kathryn Cellars, with which we share a building.
Came here so she could pick up a cherry mead that they bottle. Which unfortunately they are out of. After a short tasting session we some how walked out with a box full of bottles. A quick trip to a near by liquor store solved the problem of the missing cherry mead. But the place is interesting and there is a sizable collection of wines they make. At present I think this is going to be recurring road trip to restock.

As Colorado's first and most bee-loved meadery, Meadery of the Rockies makes an array of honey based wines. We start with pure, raw orange blossom honey, then ferment it. We also craft fruit wine and honey wine blends. They're blends of mead and fruit wines such as blackberry, strawberry and peach. We also carry fortified dessert wines. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man and has a rich and interesting history. Stop by our tasting room in the heart of Palisade, CO to learn more and have complementary tastes of our mead.
We had such a great time here! Talon, St. Kathryn’s and Meadery of the Rockies are all together right now for COVID so there are over 30 wines to pick from! Megan helped us our first day, and Ann the second (we went back because we had so much fun!!). You should try one from each list of drinks (grape wine, fruit wine, meads). They’re so helpful and willing to ask questions.

Palisade Vineyards and Winery
This has to be one of, if not the best tasting room in Grand Junction. The atmosphere is friendly, casual, inviting and really lovely. You can tell this is a winery built on passion and love for grapes and the science behind creating great wine. It was a beautiful day to sit and taste wines and chat with Ken the owner. Gave us some good insight on where to travel next and bought a bottle of the Cab Franc. Really tasty and I can't wait to share with friends.

Maison La Belle Vie (French for "House of Beautiful Life") was planted 8 years ago. The first vintages from the estate winery, were introduced in 2006 and included Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Rosé and Muscat; a dessert wine that is traditional in the Loire Valley in France. Maison la Belle Vie has now added 3 Reserve wines, a Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot all aged for 4 years as well as the famous Vin de Peche; a Muscat, fortified with peaches - a recipe from John's family that has been handed down through the generations since the late 1800's. A new addition is a hand crafted walnut liquor that is simply delicious. Our Tasting Room is open 7 days a week and features weekly events on our beautiful patio. Sunday Brunch on the Vineyard is every week 10am-3pm and Burger Night is every Friday 5-8pm. Check out our Facebook Events Calendar for up to date happenings at Maison La Belle Vie.
Wonderful little spot for a nice cheese plate and wine flight! It felt like I was visiting another country. Cute little outdoor area with plenty of shade. Riding my bike down the lane with rows of vines on either side was the experience that I was looking for. Things were a little different due to COVID but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. If I make it back to Palisade, this will be on the top of my list!

I have been to a lot of wine tastings over the years and this is without a doubt the most informative and all-around fun experience I’ve had yet. My group was set up with Varaison’s very own winemaker Alex, a ridiculously talented and charming expert on all things vino. His background in bio-chemistry and experiences with winemaking in France meant he was knowledgeable in every aspect of wines, from production and formulation to proper technique. In the first 10 minutes of our free wine tasting (oh yes, Varaison offers their tastings free of charge) I learned about how the way you drink your wine can influence the taste, depending on what part of your tongue it hits, plus a foolproof way to make sure you always buy a wine you’ll like. I found out I’ve basically been drinking wine the wrong way for the last 15 years and immediately saw the difference in tastes after those first few minutes with him. Not to mention all the wine tasting mythbusting he did while we drank. After our tasting, I finally felt like I understood how to best experience wine and not feel intimidated or confused. The wines themselves are spectacular and so unique. Highly recommend the “porch-pounder” rosé Joyeux, as well as a lightweight summer red and a beautiful Chardonnay that was anything but basic. I couldn’t decide which ones to get and settled on 5 different ones. The vineyard is completely direct to consumer, so you won’t find them at your local wine shop. Highly recommend both a visit and a stock up when you are in town.

At St. Kathryn Cellars, flavors come alive to intrigue the imagination and delight the palate. Our sweeter-edged, highly flavorful wines can be enjoyed chilled, on-ice, anytime and for any occasion. We make wines to inspire and delight! Our winemakers craft jewel-like bottles with a variety of fruits and botanicals. Our wines are unique, flavorful and authentically crafted to taste just like the fruit of origin. While it may cost us more, we choose to ferment the actual juice of the fruit. Perhaps our most unique wine, and by far our most popular, is our Lavender wine. It is made with 100% Colorado Riesling and infused with locally, organically grown lavender. Visably lavender in appearance, it has a pronounced floral aroma and a crisp, well-balanced taste. Not too dry, and not too sweet–just perfect for any drinking occasion!
My friend and I visited St. Kathryn's during COVID and so had the added experience of sampling from Meadery of the Rockies at the same time due to location consolidation efforts during the pandemic. Our hostess, Ann, was absolutely wonderful and provided us with a delightful experience. She was very knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations, and made us feel like we were spending time with another friend rather than a hostess during the tasting. The variety of flavors was expansive and pricing was great, including deals if you bought a certain number of bottles. We very much appreciated the experience and would highly recommend this location for tastings, we plan on returning at our next visit!
