Summerlee - Museum of Scottish Industrial Life

We used to take our own children to summerlee when they were younger and now we take our 3 grandchildren who love it just as much. There are plenty of things that the kids can get involved with and get their hands on and they love the tram to the old cottages and mine The cottages are all done up for various rooms through history which is really interesting and the children love everything about them. This museum is well worth the trip

Garrion Bridges Garden & Antique Centre

We are more than a Garden Centre. We have 44,000 square feet of different departments which give interest all year round. We have 9000 sq feet of antiques and our 150 seater coffee shop serves all home made food by our friendly helpful staff

I visit regularly with friends, with family, and sometimes solo. The garden centre is moderately sized- plants are always well cared for and staff couldn’t be more helpful, including on one occasion searching out online sources for a plinth for our sundial (as they didn’t stock them). The hat and handbag shop is also excellent and well worth a look. Sorry to see that recently the wee jewellery outlet has closed down as it always had lovely items and a very pleasant and helpful owner. Highlights though are the wool shop which is well stocked and efficiently run by lovely ladies who go the extra mile (I work in the nhs was even gifted early in the pandemic a batch of hand knitted and washable straps for our face masks which went round the back and made them fit better, which the owner had made as other nhs customers had complained how the masks gaped). Great wools, patterns, dried and artificial flowers and even dolls house furniture. And in non covid times, a wee jar of delicious sweeties at the till that you can dip into. And of course the gem of the antiques shop. Totally superb. Staff are fantastic, range is great and excellent quality - I have numerous pieces (furniture, ceramics, artwork, jewellery crystal, woodwork) purchased there. You can spend hours pottering round. Some very unusual, well priced and at times rare pieces. Pandemic restrictions are well observed. The restaurant has a great range and is very well run. The car park is manned at busy times to help you find a space. They have lovely cards, a great pet shop and old fashioned sweetie shop.... I could go on and on. It’s a family run concern I gather, and they get to know and greet regulars in the various sections. A great afternoon out. Just what we all need as we start to emerge from the covid darkness! If you are in the Clyde Valley don’t miss it!

I really can’t express how amazing this serene , beautifully kept place is. I only learned that it existed a couple of months ago as was in the area staying for a couple of nights with my husband. We wandered around the gardens in beautiful sunshine gasping at how wonderful Carfin grotto is. I caught mass in the chapel which made our visit even more special. I live 90 miles away but will be back. It is a free place to visit and I’ve been told there’s no more money to keep it open. We’d have happily have paid to visit. I pray that it dosent close
